RECORD (verb) (as per Google definitions) set down in writing or some other permanent form for later reference, especially officially. I’ve always had trouble committing to recording anything. The permanence of setting something down in its imperfect form, officially, seems a little indelible to me. There’s never a perfect picture, piece of writing, or even perfectly disassembled/deconstructed composition of anything and I’m seemingly always pursuing something better. Reviewing old journal entries always seems to instill embarrassment and disgust of my own immaturity, stupidity and silliness. CS Lewis says, “If I find in myself desires which nothing in this world can satisfy, the only logical explanation is that I was made for another world.” In some weird way, my pursuit of perfection comes from my desire to do and be better; to expect more of myself. To push myself harder is to test my limits and yet, knowing that I will never achieve perfection, I know I must look above to where perfection exists only in the one true God, on which my life example must be set upon. For, to set my eyes upon anything else seems trivial and almost as if I am seeking a lower goal. So, here I begin this journey of recording. I don’t know how far I’ll get or how many days I’ll keep at it but I’ll keep a dialogue of my musings: my likes, desires, pet peeves, crazy thoughts and occasional pearls of wisdom. I don’t pretend to be philosophical, intelligent or a purveyor of good taste, excellent thoughts or goodness. This is just my point of view and hopefully, reviewing these entries next week, next month or next year and beyond will cause me to look back with fondness on the journey of growth and discovery. And just maybe, some of you will join along with me on this ride of discovering life, whether you relate or not.
