I really love animals with big round bellies and on actual horses that feature is especially ADORABLE! One of my favorite animals is the miniature horse, which tends to have this feature a lot and I mean LOOK AT IT AAAAAA

The whole reason he has a seahorse is bc it’s a play on the animal being like a horse, and it’s a “skyhorse” to make a pun on aquarius being a nautically themed air sign. Horse because he’s themed around being a prince, and princes have a connection to horses (Dirk’s being MLP) since they tend to be depicted riding them (which is why both deserve to be shipped with Equius ❤️❤️❤️❤️) I don’t consider seahorses a very big part of his themeing, which is instead more focused on the military and wizards, because he is skinhead harry potter. It’s moreso the concept of having a steed in general that matters, and the image of a young boy riding one while shooting giant monsters (which is badass)
Feferi also has seahorses, but a different kind :O and she is more loving towards them because she treats all of her animals like they are stupid babies. Also could play more into her princess theming, as well as the brief glimpses we get at her being like a cowgirl…
Even made it into her ministrife sprites. For COUGH obvious reasons I don’t really regard these sprites as extremely canon, moreso just a way to show how absurd the many timelines can get with their infinite possibilities diverging from canon, but it is nice to see this alluded to even there!
