One of the finest and most beloved Watsons ever to grace the screen has passed away. David Burke was 91 years old, just shy of his 92nd birthday, and he is survived by his wife Anna Calder-Marshall and his son Tom Burke.
By all accounts, he was a gentleman and a wonderful human being. He could have stayed on to play Watson much longer, which would have made many of us very happy, but he chose to leave the show to be nearer to his family, especially since Tom was very young at the time.
His was not the first intelligent and competent Watson, but this version marked a turning point in mainstream depictions, from comedic sidekick to a hero in his own right.
RIP, dear sir. You will be missed. Thank you for everything.

National Theatre is streaming their rendition of The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde this week for free on YouTube. The production is a delight.
This show is one I constantly return to as a theatre educator for middle/high school, and it is MUCH better enjoyed when performed rather than on paper.
Whatever the opposite of rolling in his grave is, Oscar Wilde is doing it
Link for easy access!

I saw this live and it was just incredible. Could not recommend watching something more!

Hydrangeas in Tamagawadai Park, Denenchofu, Tokyo
@theconsultingtranslator, remember this park? :) I went there again to say hello to the snail. Thanks for the recommendation so many years ago: it's really one of the best hydrangea spots in western Tokyo.
Ooooh! Yes, I remember it very well, it was such a lovely spot! I'm glad you love it! ❤️
I miss Japan's hydrangeas and its gentle rainy season... We have hydrangeas here, but it's not the same!
HALT! Do you have sensory issues? Overwhelmed by sound in a messy environment? Desperately wanting to write that essay/fanfiction but your ADHD is getting on the way? In need of atmospheric sound for your tabletop game??
Please let me introduce you to MyNoise.net - a lifesaver on all aspects.
Mynoise provides an incredible index of noise machine generators with personalizing sliders to suit your every taste.
Missing the sound of a lively coffee shop during the pandemic? They have that. That specific, calming noise of a public park in a peaceful afternoon? they have that. Rain sounds? City sounds? Want to fuck around and listen to some uninterrupted Gregorian chants? They have that also!
According to the website:
“myNoise generators cover the whole audible frequency range, from 20Hz to 20kHz, over 10 color-coded sliders. Through a simple but accurate calibration process, all myNoise generators can be shaped to your personal hearing thresholds and compensate for your audio equipment and listening environment deficiencies, including the presence and nature of background noise. Calibration is unique to this website, and makes calibrated noise machines stand out from regular white noise machines. During the calibration process, we are able to measure your personal hearing levels, and adapt our noises accordingly. If you are suffering from age-related hearing, you’ll be surprised to hear frequencies you thought were lost.”
And that’s not all. When I say ‘incredible’ I really mean it; I’ve found myself using the website on multiple occasions, for work, creative and stress-related issues, and the variety of machines provided cannot be overstated. You’ve got animal noises, nature soundscapes, street sounds, meditation aids, melody-based lullabies, magical soundscapes, medieval ambiance, situation specific sounds, white noise generators– and a lot more!!! They even have noise to block out IRL sounds you don’t want to hear.
Just take a brief look at what the index page provides:
There’s something for EVERYONE. And it’s all for free! It’s been for free for years, and it is the creator’s wish that it remains accessible to everyone who might need this kind of aid in life. I am using it to write this post right now. Though if you read some of the above index, you may have noticed that the support for the website has been very low lately.
Which brings me to the reason I’m making this post. Mynoise is curated and maintained by a single person:
Please check out the Mynoise Index for yourself, donate if you can, and tell your friends who might be interested ♡

I don’t think i could love him more.
Ben looks clearly miserable in the last shot. And Martin is pissed.
I wish there was a video of this incident, but just judging from the pictures, it seems like Amanda overstepped a line here. No matter what she’d promised to the fans, there is absolutely no need to force someone out of a conversation that way. It’s a strange dynamic going on here between them. Ben could’ve just say no, but he’s giving in - reluctantly of course, but still not actively stopping her or defending himself. It makes me so uncomfortable, like why would he allow someone to treat him that way? There’s something more to that behavior, I suppose, something more personal, that was influenced by private emotions now surfacing and playing out in public…
@raposarubio, being the OP I feel I need to clarify the situation.
It was a bit of fanservice from Amanda. Yes, Benedict looked miserable, but that's the way he looked that night. That day he was in a very bad mood, the crew confirmed that. I don't know if he was in character or what. He was ignoring the fans, and we had been told that probably he wasn't in the mood for signing. It was weird, because usually he's nice with fans. The other members of the cast were all signing and interacting with fans, as far as possible. People had been standing there for hours, some came from far away just to be there. The cast knew that, and there was also a very joyful and respectful atmosphere. So, while Amanda was having a chat with the fans, some started to beg her to "please bring us Ben". People were growing desperate. She said "I'll try", and waited for an opportunity to do that. There's a lot of waiting time during shoots, and she managed to do that during a break. You can see her looking at fans in the first 2 pics, people were keeping asking her. It might look a bit forceful, but I was there and I feel she was just trying to be kind with fans.
