I'm going to miss something that never was (!)

So quite recently it had come into my mind that there are no discord servers dedicated to Cabaret the Musical. The musical itself is pretty much popular and has many themes worth discussing so it is a shame it hadn't any truly alive themed spaces.

(There are in fact a few of them but they are inactive or do not relate to the theme anyhow iykyk.)

I've been very interested in this musical and general topic for quite a while, but only now it had fully grown into a fixation of mine. I didn't really get a chance to fully interact with the fandom yet, but i will i would! It's a very small fandom space, so we are very welcoming towards any fellow fans!

It is worth mentioning that there are much work done from finding related materials to making the space actually interesting to interact with so it can worth looking into from the perspective of history of that time period if you are interested! If you ever wanted to discuss something or find a place fully dedicated to Cabaret with an opportunity to interact with other people, then this server is for you!

I have a little headcanon that Emcee is an orphan, a war orphan, if to be more precise

Actually, this headcanon came to me after I read an interview with Alan Cumming about how he sees Emcee as a character himself. All that "he came up from the streets" and him being "down and dirty" stuff.

I'm now talking about the 1993 production, where he is presented as pretty young (if we take the actor's age at least) to avoid possible questions.

I have a headcanon that he had lost his family because of the WWI, like lots and lots of other children in Germany at the time. By the end of the war, this country had more than 1 million orphans, and of course, sadly, not all of them had found new families, actually most of them didn't.

These children most of the time did not receive the attention and care they deserved even while they were still in the orphanages, and after they grew up and left, absolutely no one cared about what will happen to them after, which is logical, albeit sad. (Children who grew up in such conditions have big problems entering the uh...real world in the future, since no one prepares them for it, and the realities of the world are not similar to those to which they are used to, which often makes them end up in not the best places. But i won't dive into it, just saying.)

And it just seemed appropriate and somewhat logical to me that with such a background, he would quite easily grow into, well... whatever he is now.
