warnings | i wrote this based on that one vine, you know, with the goat thing at the door? yeah that one haha
She sat, criss-crossed on the couch, while Animal Crossing played on the TV. She’d been playing so long, she decided to take abreak and watch crack videos on YouTube, and it was quite honestly refreshing.
The house was as peaceful as one could hope — Mark would be finishing with his editing upstairs about this time, and Y/n was getting to the point in the night when she was ready to lean against him and drift off before eventually convincing him that they should go to their real bed.
As she chuckled lightly at the crack video, a thud from the front door caught her attention, her eyes flitting to it, then the time on her phone. It seemed a little late for anyone to be up and moving around in the neighborhood, let alone knocking on her and Mark’s door. So, she decided to act as if no one heard, sitting back comfortably on the couch and hoping whoever it was would take their leave. When her attention focused back on the video, a few minutes passed before she heard another thud. Her brows furrowed as she pushed herself off the couch and stepped cautiously toward the door.
Y/n spared a look toward the stairs, debating calling out for Mark to get the door instead, but realizing that if she didn’t see his feet coming down, he was probably still busy editing. Sighing, she closed the rest of the distance between her and the exit and wrapped her hand around the door knob. Sucking in a breath through her teeth, she twisted it and opened the door, looking out. Her eyes scanned the dark exterior of their porch, spotting absolutely nothing to explain what she’d heard. She mouthed a what? in confusion before something in bottom of her vision made her shift her gaze downward.
She locked gazes with a beady-eyed deer, standing diagonally on her porch, looking up at her. Blinking, her head tilted to the side and her mouth moved to form words, but none would come out. A bubble formed in her mouth instead and she put up a finger toward the deer, stepping back and closing the door. Out of the frosted glass, she could see the animal staring at her through it, practically taunting her.
Turning around, Y/n closed her eyes with furrowed brows, “”Mark?”
A beat, and then, “Yeah?”
“Can you— would you mind coming down here a sec?” Her hand ran down her face and she shook her head. She didn’t get an answer, so she figured he was saving the last bits of whatever he was doing. Y/n turned back toward the door, once again locking eyes with the deer. Blinking rapidly, her chin dropped, arms hanging by her side as she tried to figure out just how the hell a deer ended up on their porch.
“What’s up?” Mark asked as he got to the last step, walking toward his girlfriend. When she didn’t say anything, worry laced his tone, “Everything okay, Y/n?”
“On a scale of one to,” she gave a thoughtful shake of her head, and lifted her finger, “you’re fuckin’ insane, how likely are you to believe me that there is a, uh, a deer on our... porch.”
Mark raised a brow at her, eyes narrowing and lip curling up in confusion, “Wh— Wha?”
She nodded and twisted the doorknob, opening the door and waving a hand to present the beady-eyed animal, “Deer. On porch.”
Mark’s head tilted, a grunt of surprise causing his body to bounce, then his lips parted in absolute confusion, “We’re not even— how— what?”
“Hell if I know,” Y/n shrugged, looking down at the deer with narrowed eyes and closing the door again. “But, like, what... do we do... with it?”
Mark scratched the back of his head, running fingers lightly through his hair, “Do we...” He shrugged, thumb jabbing toward the kitchen as his voice raised in question, “we got any carrots?”
