I've already mentioned how I've become so addicted to validation on the internet that I'm now much more sensitive than I want to be... The whole story with a random project of mine amassing a fully-fledged fandom, with all the aspects of one ranging from the most confusing drama to the most beautiful art, has certainly made me a different person than I was two years ago. I can't say whether I've gotten better or worse though. It's a mix of both. I've definitely learned some more things about the internet.

And one of the main things that's changed about me is I've become more afraid of what people on the internet can do. Doxxing, cancel culture, all that. There are people somewhere who think I'm evil for whatever reason. I shouldn't worry about it, things like that will happen when random people of all ages and mentalities are aware of you, but it's so weird. And overwhelming.

Knowing how easy it is to give a whole bunch of people an awful impression of myself without even realizing it kinda fucks with me. Even while writing posts like this one I have thoughts that maybe someone will somehow misinterpret them as me hating everyone or something. Again, a lot of the time that bad impression isn't my problem to solve, but like, god dammit this place is chaotic.

Still, despite all that, it's great to stay your true self and make whatever you want without worrying about upsetting some strangers.

It's just that, like all great things, it's also very difficult.

A random influencer decided he'll listen to an anti cancer song on loop. People liked it enough times he ended up listening for 9 days.

He raised 90 million in these 9 days, and then 160 million more over the last 10 hours, for a total of 250 million.

Hundreds and thousands of people signed up to donate marrow.

Hundreds of celebrities shaved their heads in solidarity.

The Foundation receiving this money had to create a special commission to figure out how to distribute the money.

The national TV stations got highjacked to stream this for hours because it was better news than anything happening in the world.

Because we broke and DOUBLED the world record for this kind of thing.

They raised about as much as the biggest running charity event in Poland did in a whole year with three decades of tradition and a goddamn army of people.

Łatwogang refuses to collab with companies that only reached out to him now because of popularity or give interviews. He said any medals people wanna give them should go to the doctors and nurses and the cancer patients.

Someone offered to renovate that shabby little flat for him as a thank you. He refused.

in general it's important to understand how we're not the main characters of the universe. it has no main characters. everyone and everything is just something that exists somewhere. existence itself is beautiful. none of our mistakes or flaws will ever significantly affect that beauty.

it's such a scummy way to get engagement from the public. it doesn't really spread awareness about certain things beyond "oh that exists" and most of the time, people are just making these kinds of posts to gain likes and followers, rather than making it because they actually care about something

and it sucks for people like me who genuinely believe that something bad will happen or that i am a terrible person if i don't share these kind of posts. i remember back when these engagement bait posts were popular, i'd share every single one out of panic, but then my own followers would come into my DMs because they were scared that if they didn't share these kind of posts that i shared, i'd block them or see them differently (which ofc not, i wouldn't do anything to anyone just because they didn't share a stupid post)

so now it's kind of like "i don't want to share these posts because what if someone who's brain works like mine sees the stuff i shared and starts freaking out too, but if i don't i'm going to feel a Crushing Wave Of Guilt and everyone will hate me unless i post it oh shit what do i do fuck fuck fuck fuck"

but i'm so glad that i started seeing less posts of this kind nowadays, especially since i avoid looking at other people's instagram stories/posts they shared, but in the rare case that i still end up panic-sharing one of those posts (this is unhealthy btw. the best case is to ignore it, which i usually do) i usually cover up the engagement bait parts with me calling out the poster for the needless bait
