Sedova: “You are a ruffian.”

Trotsky: “I am a revolutionary.”

“You (formal) were rude to me.” “I made you (informal) happy, by the means accessible to me.” “So that’s how you plan to build your new world?”

“If necessary, yes. What matters, is that the result is the same.”

“And what do you mean by ‘the same?’”

“What I mean, is that eventually everyone will be happy.”

“Everyone?” “Everyone.”

“And that’s not too much to bring upon yourself, Comrade Revolutionary? You seduce one fragile girl, and now you expect an entire nation to fall at your feet?”

“That’s what a nation is – a fragile girl. The psychology of the masses is feminine – passive in nature. You wait for what a man offers you, then choose the best. Same with the masses, especially the Russians. Like school girls, they never take the first step. But a strong, confident gentleman appears, and off they run to gladly give themselves away!”

“I don’t understand how you can speak so scornfully of the very nation you claim to fight for.”

“There is no scorn – only an understanding of the benefits of force.”

“You should see your face. Your contempt for these people is written all over it.”

“And what of it? Doesn’t a nation which has tolerated tyranny for centuries deserve contempt?”

“But why fight for the happiness of a nation you despise?”

Tsarist General: “It was clever of you to try and take а third way out. However, there are only two escapes from the deadlock that you, the Bolsheviks, have driven Russia into: Capitulation, or death.”

Trotsky: “Vladimir Yevstafyevich, let’s be honest. Weren’t you tsarist generals the ones who so eagerly dragged your ‘beloved’ Russia into this war?”

“We were fulfilling our duty. Without your – if I may – revolutionary agitation, what reason would you have had to recruit soldiers? To shoot officers, to fraternize with the enemy?”  

“And whose fault is it, that the soldiers believed in our ideas?”

“Your ‘ideas’ turned the combat-ready Russian army into a herd of cattle! YOU did this, you, the BOLSHEVIKS!”

“May I remind you, that in spite of this you still accepted Bolshevik authority, Comrade Skalon.” “I never accepted Bolshevik authority. I only accept the will of Russia. My Motherland… she is like a beloved, insane woman. She thrashes blindly, only to recognize it too late – staring at the carnage with horror and regret. But I will always be with her – in joy, and in pain.”

As it surprises absolutely no one, central has ignored me successfully on several instances, and for several weeks, in my proposal to just give them the fucking subtitles for nrh on their channel since they’ve pulled down mine.
