*me watering the garden tonight while playing WAP*

Random thoughts with little context:
With the exception of my stories, I haven't posted on my IG feed in almost 3 months. Most would tell you that's a social media no no. I would tell you, "fuck the rules".
This will be posted there eventually, but something told me to let Tumblr see it first.
I've been good an exercising "control" with my quarantine plant purchases these last few months. If anything, the majority of the plants bought were perennials for my outdoor garden. One of my last houseplant purchases was this cissus quadrangularis. I love it. So different. I luv da funky bois.
Another random quarantine purchase was this garden belt. I paid more than I ever thought I would spend on a garden belt, but it's so cute I couldn't say no.
There's no point to this post. Just slowly getting my social media mojo back... cuz lord... the last few months have been overwhelming and the internet has been doing A LOT.
Trying not to lose myself in the mix. Trying to stay true to myself in the mix. For me, that means not feeling obligated or compelled to do things simply because I feel I should. Trying to embrace my feelings and not ignore them. Trying to truly feel them. I've come to realize how important that is for me in being my authentic self. Feel those feels.
This post might get deleted.

I've been in a much better headspace these last 2 weeks or so. The crazy part is the slight anxiousness I feel when things have been going good for a while. Like...okay, is it going to get bad again? Cuz I don't like dat.
Cheers to those navigating their way through a depressive state. You got this. I got this.

This is a genuinely great thing. We should have more roadside plant swaps. 🥰
I'm always pro-plant swap! Sharing is caring

Spring throwback
I can think of a few ways to maintain the aesthetic of cottagecore while still being actively anti-colonialist.
1. Emphasize urban cottagecore. How can you be cottagecore in your apartment or home in the city? Visit farmer's markets, thrift markets, mom and pop secondhand stores, secondhand stores that support good causes.
2. Still visit and take aesthetic pictures in forests, prairie lands, what have you. But. Research which Indigenous peoples were displaced or colonized from that land. Attach their name to the post. Hyperlink resources to donate or support their causes. If you're reblogging a picture and the geographical location is attached, find out who that land belongs to and attach it as well. It will take, at most, an extra minute or so to find that information.
3. As always, stay educated and aware of the layers behind cottagecore aesthetic. Don't reblog from sources that regurgitate colonialist rhetoric. Reblog more content with a broader scope of natural living than what you've seen before. It's okay to reblog educational posts about the implications of cottagecore to remind yourself and others to be conscious about your aesthetic.
4. Learn to listen to Indigenous voices without inserting yourself into the conversation. If you're doing something that someone more knowledgeable than you says is harmful -- just silently change your behavior and move on. Ask questions to those willing to answer and move on from people who aren't. Anti-racism and anti-colonialism doesn't have to be some all-consuming performative dance. Find out how to adjust your methods to help or stop being harmful (see: point 1-3) and move on with those changes in mind for next time. Recognize that you likely don't understand a lot of what is being talked about and recognize that, with time, you will. But only if you let people speak and try to understand and change as best as you can.
