But i'm glad I did! Its heart-wrenchingly beautiful and meaningful that it aches me! 💭 Also, I seldom talk about book covers, but this one is minimalist, yet pretty and speaks of the book. I would've bought it for the cover. 💭 So the story revolves around this legendary cafe called Funiculi Funicula that could help you to time travel. The coffee pourer has to be a female from the family, and aged 7 years old onwards. Thats just how it is and in the present, it's Kazu's responsibility. I love everything about it. The character and plot building, the aspect of it. They are just brilliant! This is by far the best domestic historical fiction stpry I have ever read and made me cried. He started the "truth chain" by first writing about himself. So this book is passed on to Monica. After Monica read the story of Julian, write something authentic about herself, she passed it on to Hazard and it continues on to 3 other strangers for a chance to be true. Have we known many genius women? We knew Albert Enstein, Da Vinci and many other men geniuses. But we have not been much exposed to these intelligent women. The author tells stories by using unique mix of memoir, narrative and inspiration. She exposed womens that has contributions without recognitions from all over the world from decades ago throughout history. These women are opressed by gender stereotypes. Their talents should be recognized, nurtured and celebrated. This book is very insightful, facts stated are mostly unknown for me and it is quite interesting to know these womens, their expertise, capabilities and carriers. In my honest opinion, women are equal to men in many aspects. We are capable of doing, discovering, investing so many things just like men. My favourite facts are of the women authors like the Bronte sisters and J. K. Rowlings that had her pen name sounded like a men name to be accepted. Mind boggling! It's been a long time since I have read historical fiction and this one is really captivating yes gruesome story, reminding me of my grandmother's story about her life during the Japanese occupation a long time ago before Malaysia got it independance. Narrated by Wang Di in the present, also Wang Di in her past and a shy bookish middle schoolers named Kevin. Sets in Singpore during WWll. Their lives are pretty normal until the Japanese occupation. Wang Di was taken away by the Japanese and forced into being so called comfort woman. This terms despise me as much as sex slave. During her years in captivation in the 'black and white' house, she got pregnant while one of her friend was shot to death. One day, years later, they suddenly got released. She end up awaken in hospital, finally reunited with her family., but what remain a mystery is where is the baby she gave birth to? Theres Kevin's. He pretty much keep to himself and his books. he is very close to his grandmother until the last day of her life. After her death, Kevin found some letters written by his grandmother revealing a huge secret. It has something to do with Wang Di (no spoilers though). I really like Wang Di's story. It brought shivers down my spine and tears on my cheek as I am able to feel the emotion throughout the story. Unfortunately I don't really feel the same with Kevin's. Any recommendations? _________________________________ Veronika Decides To Die by Paulo Coelho | Book Review 4⭐️ "We are allowed to make a lot of mistakes in our lives except the mistake that destroys us". 💭 It follows Veronica, a young and pretty woman with a loving family and a good job as a lawyer, but she is not happy with all the things in the world that she wants to kill herself by swallowing a lot of sleeping pills. But then she'd awoken in an asylum called Villete. 💭 She started to questioned all of her ideas about life that she soon comes to realise that every second of existence is a choice we all make between living and dying. When she was in the asylum, she met a few inmates with various reasons of being in Villete. Zedka, married to a nice husband with kids falls into depression after being left by her secret lover. 💭 And then theres Mari, admitted to the hospital of having panic attack but she is not mad at all. She is allowed to leave anytime she wants but she didn't. She is a friend of Eduard, who suffered from schizophrenia. 💭 "An awareness of death encouraged us to live more intensely". Ok. No spoilers! It ended gracefully with a plot twist that blown my mind away! 💭 Why haven't I pick this book up earlier in life? I am glad that I bought the box set of 10 because he is such a storyteller! Its phenomenal! The story is profoundly beautiful and moving. We could see through Veronika's point of view of why we should not ended our lives even if we think our life is terrible and has no meaning in it. It was all a matter of control and choice. Nothing more and nothing less". The story follows a stranger who came to a small village called Viscos. The first villager he met is an orphan named Miss Prym, a barmaid. He showed her the gold that he had planted in the forest and told her his plan of giving her one gold bar if she can managed to get the other villagers to commit a crime. There's a lot more gold bar to be given and divided among the villagers that can change their lives. The ending is very satisfying. Weather or not good or evil had won, we all would learn something from the story. The story about good and evil that might sound generic but the way the story writing is executed, is brilliant. feeling like a teenager reading a YA 😂 Q : Whats your favourite YA books? ____________________ 📖 Yes No Maybe So by Becky Albertalli and Aisha Saeed | Mini Book Review . 💭It follows two main characters Maya, a Muslim girl and Jamie, a Jewish boy doing canvassing together for senate candidate election in Georgia while having their friendship turning into a relationship. . 💭Maya is having a not so good Ramadhan because her bestfriend Sara is keeping her distance and her parents are in a trial separation. She's trying so hard to keep things together. Maya is a very sweet and brave character. . 💭Jamie in the other hand is having a nervous break down for her sister's bat mitzbah. He's not good at public speaking but he is good at canvassing that required him to talk to strangers. Jamie is clumsy, but adorable. He is such a responsible brother to Sofie and a good son too. . 💭I don't like to read books that has political aspects in it but this book got me distracted from the main course and instead keep on giving me desserts. . 💭What I like about this book is the Ramadhan interfaith Iftar ceremony hosted by both of the community. They bond with each other like families. Its quite controversional especially with Palestine-Israel war going on. But thats basically how these two communities survived in a place dominated and ruled by the white people. Its about love and respect. . 💭One of my favourite character is Jamie's grandma. The solutions for the conflicts or subjects that has been brought up from the previous page, in the next one. And then, tafseer of excerpts from Quranic verses, beautiful sayings, motivational quotes and advices. . 💭In the "Sadness of An Orphan" chapter, it reminds me to love, appreciate and pray for my parents, eventhough they are no longer together, but I am still the child of both. . 💭I paused to reflect myself at the end of "Am I a Barren?" chapter. I was reading another Christie's book when I fell asleep and started a massive killing spree 😂 I was like slashing through them with a samurai. When I woke up, I was like "mom I just killed so many people!". _________________________ The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie | Mini Book Review . 4⭐ 💭The story follows the murder of a lady whose marrying Roger Ackroyd and had poisoned her husband to death! She left a letter to Roger telling him the reason why she had done so. She actually got blackmailed by...... Roger did not finished reading it infront of Professor Sheppard and died afterwards. . 💭Later, Sheppard got the news of Roger's death. Thats when the investigation begin, where I've got pretty decepted and clueless until the story got unraveled one by one. . 💭Agatha is using Sheppard as the narrator and made him almost like the author of the book himself. Its a brilliant work I can say! She added so many twist and layers in it and left them for us to guessed and wondered right till the end. I am satisfied by the ending and I am onto the next Poirot Series! . 💭This is the kind of book you should have brought with you on an island incase you got stranded. is going to watch the 2nd book's movie adaptation. Q : Have you read/watched the book/adaptation? . 💭 This is so good! I love how it keeps on going with the plots, characters building and all. There are always conflicts going on. It keeps getting better!
