“ah, well if your daughter ever asks i’ll tell her stories of fairies and princesses.” 

Kenna didn’t speak while Bash was talking, she barely even moved, scared that anything she did would shatter the moment and she would wake up to find it had been a dream. During the silence she stared up at him, noticeably holding her breath, still afraid he would take it all back and walk away until he kissed her. “I love you too.”

his smile widened and he let out a breath of relief. “let us catch up properly. no arguing, no unkind words, but talking. communication our marriage so desperately needs.” he took her hand in his, intending to walk back to his room. “i promise to be a better husband kenna, i have no work to distract me anymore.” 

“I don’t think we should start with that. Phones are rather complicated and incredibly difficult to get used to. As are cars. Maybe we should start with electricity,” She thought mostly to herself knowing Bash wouldn’t have a clue what she was talking about. “The clothing could be worse, I don’t miss corsets but you are right about the pants being very tight. If you’re not jealous you should have no problem with him writing to me or me to him.”

“you’re going to have to speak a language i’m fluent in i’m afraid. as of right now i haven’t the faintest idea what you’re saying. elec-what?” he suddenly wished he was back in the familiar surroundings of france, where he had his horse and his life. where none of this unfamiliarity was about. “yes, i’m sure you breathe easier now. i however miss my clothes. men’s clothing is terrible here.” he frowned at his wife and sighed heavily. “stop questioning my reasons and stop writing to him. i don’t like the sound of him. he’s probably a thief and a liar. “

I do not know of his intentions.” It wasn’t completely true. Everything Kenna did was for a reason and most of those reasons involved a man in some way. She knew exactly the effect she had on men. “Nothing happened between us. there is no need for jealousy.”

“there’s still much about this time i still have to learn. like that thing you were holding. but thank you, that might be very helpful, mary tried to help me with clothing earlier and that was a disaster. i like my clothes. those black pants were so small i was sure they were fit for a child’s legs.” he scoffed and his arms crossed his chest. “tell him he can keep any letters he wishes to write to himself. i am not jealous. at all. what would i have to be jealous of from some annoying barely important king?” 

Kenna looked into Bash’s eyes for the first time in what seemed like forever and nodded. “I haven’t moved on and I haven’t changed my mind. I still love you Bash. I wouldn’t have said I think our marriage could still work if I didn’t completely believe it. Maybe it won’t work. Perhaps we were always doomed to fail but this is a new start for us both and we should at least give it a chance. But only if you are sure. You are far too good to me and I know I do not deserve it.”

“i wouldn’t have said it if i wasn’t sure, kenna. what we had before everything, it was worth saving. before our troubles were loaded and we lost ourselves within it.” he let his hand fall to rest gently on her face, looking at her with a great intensity. “i’ve never stopped loving you, kenna. and i never will.” he hesitated for a moment but took the leap and leaned in, pressing their lips together in a soft kiss.”i love you kenna.”
