Cerro Gordo Hotel
At around 2am on June 15th, 2020 Brent Underwood, owner and caretaker of Cerro Gordo, woke up to what sounded like fireworks being set off. Upon walking out he saw the hill illuminated in the night sky. He soon found out that the American Hotel was engulfed in flames.
Unfortunately by the time that the fire department was able to make it to this abandoned mining town the American Hotel, the Crapo House, and the Ice House had all been lost to the blaze.
Since then they have been trying to save up the funds to clean up the site and rebuild these lost historical buildings.
As of October 14, 2020 they have only reached $71,563 out of their $500,000 goal.
Please consider donating if you’re able to and please share this around.
