#so they get stuck in time right#they're stuck in....what time is the light in this drawing giving me. i don't know. 70s or 80s. whatever. they're in a city in the U.S.#tardis takes off without them#spooked by the detonation of the spore creature they were there to stop from slowly poisoning the city#doctor does some calculations and it'll take the tardis 4000 years to shake off the spores in the time vortex#so it'll be back for them in a month#a month? says clara. i hope you like dishwashing. we're going to have to get jobs. also that's rubbish that a time machine needs a month#to process 4000 years.#of course it doesn't need a month to process 4000 years the doctor says. the spores have thrown off its internal metrics that's all.#like a human getting sick and sleeping through the daytime and thinking it's still the previous day when they wake up at night.#anyway no more dialogue so they're staying in this apartment owned by one of the people they'd helped with the spore creature#and clara gets a job as a server at a diner (lol) and the doctor works as a dishwasher (she clocked him on that) at a different place for#a week or so#before he somehow stumbles into being a sleight of hand magician/opening act/host for a local burlesque style club#the performers love him because he's grumpy but never weird with them and they assume he and clara are together after she comes to#a performance and then lectures him backstage#so youre the manager. quips one of the girls. we knew someone had to be keeping an eye on that one so he didn't fall into a sewer grate.#im not that old the doctor says#the girls laugh because that's not what they meant. clara knows what they meant. she fixes the doctor's bow tie.#been a while since i've seen you in one of these she says#anyway i agree with prev that she does the laundry and he cooks#there's only one bed in the creaky little apartment because it's one little room with the kitchen and clothing washer stuffed into one end#he doesn't need to sleep as much as humans but when he does they share the bed. no argument. she'll go to sleep alone and wake up#with him next to her. sharp elbows in her ribs. it's stranger because it doesn't feel strange to her. his face in the morning light.#it's the first time she's seen him asleep since his regeneration sickness. one morning she wakes up to find her arm across his chest#and for the first time she thinks it might not be so bad if the tardis takes her time returning to them#for real though this is a gorgeous little drawing and very evocative obviously from my tags lollll
