on one hand, robert being so self-destructive. his body is, by present day of canon, just a machine to pilot the mech and be mecha man. it doesn't need to be pretty, or healthy, and maybe he doesn't want it to be— even if just subconsciously. does he even realize how self-destructive he is being, especially post-coma, by not caring for his body?
but on the other hand... a robert who (until very recently) took almost meticulous care of his body. he still doesn't need it pretty; and it is still a machine. but machines need to be looked after, cared for; even if built to last they can only so that with regular maintenance. robert who has so many scars but not a lot of badly healed scars, because he moisturizes almost religiously and does anything else he can to avoid scar tissue build up. robert who takes cold showers to help reduce swelling and inflammation, and owns like four heating pads. who takes multi-vitamins, and keeps an extremely well–stocked first aid kit.
his work itself is his work out, but he also spends a lot of time sitting in the suit so he also makes sure to try and go on a run daily (or at least a few times a week). he stretches, maybe even does some yoga if he is particularly tight. who actually sees a magical healer instead of a normal clinic or hospital, typically when he is injured, and it's why he's sustained so many injuries (including head injuries) but is still kicking.
robert who has to keep the machine running as long as he can. so he maintains it the way someone meticulously cares for an old work truck, that might not be pretty but it functions, and is out lasting everything around it.
even though robert really really deep down wishes he could let the machine rest, if even for a moment...
then the fall happens, and it is forced to rest. and suddenly, when he wakes up, the machine is damaged. not entirely beyond repair but even with the best fixes, it will never fully work like it did. it will always make strange noises, creak and twinge in ways it shouldn't. will now always have limits on it that it didn't have before...
And consider robert having never taken joy out of maintenance because he was only ever doing it to continue being Mecha Man. Post Dispatch, he starts taking care of himself not because of some objective goal, but because he just wants to feel better. He falls into the same routines as before (albeit modified after the fall) but he looks forward to it. Goes on runs with Mandy, works out with Chad, or does skincare with Alice etcetera and he stops thinking of his body like a means to an end but as a part of himself that he wants to keep healthy, not for anyone but himself. It’s the same routines, but it’s self care now, not self maintenance.
Robert: Damn, they got my taco order wrong again
Coupé:
Robert: No, I do not want you to torture him… and no, that does not mean I want you to kill him painlessly, either
Coupé: I will give them one more chance

If I could have two characters from Dispatch start a podcast together, I would choose Sonar and Flambae. I think that would be the funniest option other than Phenomaman with literally anyone
I like how heroes are also kinda like celebs in the Dispatch universe. like if ur a villain and a hero comes to stop you it’ll be like “oh shit it’s him!” but then it’ll also like “oh shit!! it’s him!”
obviously it’s a bad situation because they’re gonna put you in jail if they get you but it’s also like, people don’t really plan on becoming villains so it’s also like meeting someone who was a role model to you or who you had a crush on or maybe even parasocial relationship with. u can’t help but be a little giddy too
like imagine robbing a bank and as ur making ur escape Ryan Gosling just shows up and starts kicking ur ass

Has anyone else pictured Robert making a fort around his and Chase's desk?
I firmly believe that Chase used to make forts in the living room for Robert when he was a kid.
So why not make one at work?
Only them and Beef are allowed in, they have a password.
(Galen and Sonar are allowed in, but only because they heard the password and they respect passwords in this fort. Plus they bring snacks.)
HR tried telling them to take it down but Chase threw a book at them, they didn't try again. Mostly because they were afraid Robert would come out and bite them.
(Reminder: sound ON 🔊)
✦ Meeting you at the finish line after chasing time again and again. Was it worth it? You’re here but I miss you. ✦

Chase and little Robert
Thought I'd post some of my Dispatch fanart might post the rest eventually 🤔

I’m thinking about my Ghost Grandpa Bobby au again for the first time in a while, and I’ve talked some amount about Bobby being Robert’s constant cheer leader, but I also want it known that this man has zero filter.
I mean, he’s been stuck in a mech suit, unable to be seen or heard by anyone, for DECADES. After a while, you have to become your own entertainment.
Except now, he’s finally got an audience member for his personal stand-up routine! And poor Bobby’s not used to vetting his material.
————
Robert: *talking to Prism, minding his business.*
Bobby: wait a minute… Robert, is the blue half of her wig the wrong shade of blue? Oh my god, it is. Robert, I need you to ask her for me. Why doesn’t her wig match? If she’s such a popular figure, SURELY she has the money to properly color match her wig!
Robert: *eye twitching because now he can’t unsee it either*
————
Bobby: how light do you think Punch-Up can get?
Robert: I’m sorry, how light?
Bobby: his power is pictomancy, correct? He can control his density.
Robert: right, but he usually makes himself more dense, not less.
Bobby: but theoretically, if he can make himself lighter, that would make him even more impervious to physical force.
Robert: it would also make him fly around the room like a pinball if he got smacked.
Bobby: …
Robert: …
Robert: *over coms* Punch-Up, how light can you make yourself?
————
Robert: *is doing PT in the SDN gym while Flambae is working out*
Bobby: he looks like a Cirque du Soleil performer.
Robert: *snrk*
Bobby: specifically from when I was alive to see them. An 80’s Cirque performer. He’s got the face of an acrobat who is pining after one of the contortionists.
Robert: *covers his mouth*
Bobby: sadly, his affections are not returned. So until he can get laid, he hogs the squat rack so that one day he can bend far enough that he can fuck himself. You know, to impress the contortionist.
Robert: *shoulders shaking* GrAnDpA, pLeAsE
Flambae: bitch, you dying over there or what??
I think I enjoy two interpretations of Flambae’s dad the most:
1) All around, a good father whose only questionable parenting method is getting Chad into arson. But the ultimate conclusion can be interpreted as ‘you are what you are. And I love what you are.’
2) Angsty spin: Cool dad.
But cool and that’s it.
Personally, I don’t enjoy erasing the fact that Flambae had a good father.
I understand wanting to explore the possibilities and adding depth to his story. But I feel like that can be achieved without taking away the positive aspects of his life.
This is mostly ‘your father loves you more than anyone in the world. He’s also flawed in ways you aren’t ready to look at.’
That being said: If you asked Flambae if he had a good father, he’d say of course he did. His father is awesome. Always was, always will be.
He laughs like a car in overdrive and dresses like Ghost rider and a cocktail had an affair.
He has five dirty jokes in his gums, and an endearing wildness about him.
He thought Flambae how to cook with one hand and blow stuff up with the other. Thought him that he shouldn’t apologize for what he is.
And whenever he’s asked about Chad’s childhood, his dad always laughs, sunglasses glinting with a certain nervousness.
“Well, we raised eachother, really.”
Because the truth is: He wasn’t ready to be a dad. But he wasn’t ready to be alone, either.
If you asked Flambae, he would also say, cup to his lips and eyes a little downcast, as he and the team discuss childhoods for reasons he can’t quite grasp,
“He used to race all the time, before I was born. He was good at it, too. After my mom had me, he used to pour a little gasoline in his beer. I think it’s the only way he knew how to miss it.”
And if someone did try to tell Flambae that driving your father to the ER at 12, because a race ended badly isn’t ideal, he’d just shrug.
“Yeah, but he didn’t have to stay. Doesn’t that count?”
He’d say that he was loved.
And if someone, — maybe Robert, maybe Prism, maybe anyone on the Z team who can relate to him even a little, — would say “Yeah. But it sounds like you weren’t raised.”
He wouldn’t know how to debate that.
Honestly, thank goodness I was a little late to Dispatch... because I AM DROWNING! HELP!
I'm tempted to tag everyone who's been a culprit... but it might be too many of you! <3
