All he wanted to do was get as far away from that house and Malachai as possible. He felt like a fool. He had waited these months for the other to find himself and come back to him and as he found out, he had no intention of doing that. Joeâs heart was shattered. Sure it had hurt when Kai had first broken up with him, but he left him with that hope that if he gave him space and gave him time he would come back. that he would be his again. But to have that ripped away from him. To have that taken away in such a cold way, to find out the other man, the man he loved even now, had no intention of ever coming back. This had him broken in ways he didnât know he could be.
Joeâs mind was in a million different places. So when he first the noise, it was already too late. The low growl, the scraping noise on the asphalt of the street. It was just one at first, then he heard another and another. The fog was so thick, he couldnât see how many there were, but he could see one spot where their wasnât one surrounding him. Smart or not, he took off running. But he didn;t get very far, just a few steps away from where they had been. The black creatures with their foul breath and sharp talon like claws were upon him so quickly. He let out a blood curdling scream, a noise he had never heard himself make before as one of the tails whipped around and hit him on the side of the head. It had knocked him sideways, but he was able to keep on his feet, but not for long when another motion of the same came from the other side this time knocking him down and unconscious.
He didnât know how long he had been out, but when he awoke, he felt a pain searing through his shoulder, one of the creatures had stuck his claw into his shoulder and was dragging him now, to wherever it was they were going. Joe saw trees and felt the the rough ground below. but that was the extent of what he could tell was happening. they arrived at a cave like place, something he didnât even know they had near Wildemont.Â
There wasnât much time for him to take in his surroundings when it happened. It happened quick. but even with his broken heart and knowing what was happening, the last person he thought of was Kai, not the man he saw on the steps of his house a few hours ago, but the man he loved, the one he had kept in his heart for all this time. He didnât even time to make a noise. His heart beat for the last time, his lungs took their last breath as the monsters took there parts. Joe was no more.
