hand-me-down
fasciinatingâ:
as a CHILD, Spock had been afforded little by way of companionship. for some time, he could have perhaps considered those worthy of such a title as friendship, of two, between simply that of his motherâi-chayaâuntil the day, he could not. but to feel LOSS for a thing he could not have, no thought or sliver for a shared space, from those his own age, his own people, he concedes is, or should be, a waste of his time.
Spock is VULCAN. & on the subject of emotion, feeling, the need for something ( or someone ) to combat oneâs rotating loneliness, as logic says, as his father says, & despite his HUMAN half, he is surely unqualified. instead, Spock filled the void, like he does now, with science. pressing forward, pushing harder, his natural curiosities & drive to be BETTER, become the strings that play at his fingertips.  at present, he is WORKING. head down & his brows slightly furrowed as he concentrates on the last, remaining piece of a puzzle spanned generations within his family. the Android was, is, a prized possession in the House of Sarek, even if Spockâs father had NEGLECTED it the longest. his mother assures him his doings are acceptable. that every child should have a hobby, as she once said. to Spock, it is more than that. to him, it is a PRECIOUS gift. a distraction. an achievement. a symbol. & ultimately, a young boyâs connection to a notion he has striven so hard to obtain. his father will be PROUD, he thinks. the inner workings of the Android are complex. easily dismissed. & yet, after so many years, Spock believes he has found THE ANSWER. one, that had come to him weeks ago during his lunch period at the Learning Center. meticulously, as he has been for HOURS, Spock dismembers synapses, rebuilding them with bits of other self-made things, adjoining them to their proper places. there is a chip within the pinch of forceps, delicately placed & sodded when the time is RIGHT. the smell of hot adhesive & painstakingly melted circuit-board assaults his nostrils. his hands ache. his eyes, tired from the long day. but so late in the evening, HUDDLED alone in his room, his objective is finally complete. with a satisfied breath, Spock leans back in his chair, watching & waiting for PROOF of his success or another failure. lights fire, gears whir. he snags his lower lip with a tooth to maintain the ILLOGIC of his excitement, then stands to give the Android room.
Spock has seen the androidâs eyes many times at this point. They were repaired before his time, but heâd opened the androidâs eyelids multiple times over the years to test the way his repaired synapses interacted with various automated biological systems, such as blinking, smiling, and fine motor functions. Neural pathways that were artificially stimulated in order to make sure that the repaired circuitry could reach the rest of his body.
As soon as the last little chip was fixed into place, the androidâs self-repair protocols kicked in, picking up the last of the slack left behind by centuries of hard work, tiny fixes to systems so small and nuanced that nobody but Dr. Soong himself would even know to look for damage there. In a matter of minutes the last few pathways are repaired, and for the first time on their own, the androidâs eyes open.

âYeah? Howâs he supposed to feel? Iâd be mad too if somebody tried to tear my eyes out.â
âI was on dutyâI left Lieutenant Rhodes on duty while I got some lunch and they tried toââ The cyborg bites his tongue and shakes his head. âThis keeps happeninââover and over again. Iâm just sayinâ eventually he might not be the only one looking to put those idiots through a wall.â
âYou know as well as I do that Starfleet regulations prohibit corporal punishment.â
âThe captain has taken action against the ensigns responsible, and thereby set a precedent for any who would seek to repeat the actions. It is enough.â

Trip laughed. Data had the deadpan humor down even better than TâPol. âThat would be perfect. It is terrible. Youâre gonna love it. It has sharks in the sky, whatâs not to like?â
âI believe there are a great many reasons that would prevent an individual from liking sharks in the sky. When will this movie night take place? I will need to make a note of it and request a shift cover if necessary.â
motoredheartâ:
âTell me somethinââŚwhenâs enough enough, huh? They hit him, he has to take it? Is that the kind of message Starfleetâs sending to people these days? Lie down and take itâŚthey tore his eye out.â
âYou misunderstand.â
âI mean that I am disappointed in Lore.â
motoredheartâ:
@theandroiddata
âI dunno. I left to go get somethinâ to eat, came back and he was all busted up. Maybe those ensigns deactivated the shield, donât see how theyâd still be alive, though, seeing as how he was talking about murdering them.â
âI see.â
âThat is disappointing to hear.â
'Your brother's hurt pretty bad. Some ensigns messed him up pretty good. Might wanna come take a look at him, he's bleedin'.'
âAgain?â
âHow does this keep happening? That force field is supposed to work both ways.â
anyway my star trek online character is really hot

âIf only we could all be as enlightened.â Batou laughs. âStuff like that must roll off you like water off a duckâs back, huh?âÂ
The cyborg leans forward a little, his expression going more serious then, âSo youâre Loreâs brother, right? Ya know Commander Rikerâs got me guardinâ his cell. This is gonna sound bad no matter how I put it, but whatâs wrong with that guy? Seems like heâs not firinâ on all cylinders if you know what I mean. Howâd he end up like that anyways, werenât you both programmed by the same guy?âÂ
âHis programming was damaged by an errant emotion chip that he tricked our father into installing in his brain.â
âIt conflicted with the emotional programming he already possessed. The chip has since been removed, however the damage is done. I do not believe it is permanent however, with enough information feeding through his subprocessors, his brain will repair itself by writing new protocols and fixing broken systems.â

* GETTING Â TO Â KNOW Â THE Â ACCOUNTÂ *
WHAT Â INSPIRED Â YOU Â TO Â TAKE Â ON Â THIS Â MUSE : (I got tagged on both Data and Picard so Iâll be answering for both for all of these) I went into TNG expecting to pick up muse for Picard, but Data just kind of happened along the way. I am very very weak for Nerd type characters (as demonstrated by that muse list up there) and Data is just so earnestly sweet that I couldnât not play him.
As for Picard, I knew from the start that chances were high Iâd write him. Heâs also a nerd, but heâs a fruitcake as well-- which puts him doubly in my wheelhouse.
WHAT Â ARE Â YOUR Â FAVORITE Â ASPECTS Â OF Â YOUR Â CURRENT Â MUSE : My favorite thing about Data is how strongly heâs austistic-coded. Obviously everything âautisticâ about him can just be attributed to him being an android, but nevertheless the coding is heavy, and after spending more than fifteen years with various people in my life on the spectrum who are extremely important to me, itâs so refreshing to have a character like Data who fits so neatly on the spectrum but isnât relegated to âthe Special token r-slurâ
My favorite thing about Picard is how prissy he is, legitimately. I love the concept of a man who is so supremely in charge and on top of his shit, but would absolutely shower every single day, takes great pride in his appearance, and drinks tea in tiny bath robes. At the same time, he HAS the ability to put up with dirt and grime and sweat and mess-- but if he had his way, heâd be so clean he squeaked at all times, smelling of cologne, and wearing pore-cleansing masks while curled up with a book.
WHATâS Â YOUR Â BIGGEST Â INSPIRATION Â WHEN Â IT Â COMES Â TO Â WRITING :Â uhhh honestly, the people who read it. i have no patience for or interest in solo writing whatsoever. for me writing is a group experience that i share with RP partners exclusively. im just not into writing by myself. FAVORITE Â TYPES Â OF Â THREADS :Â HMMMM am i a slut if i say shipping BIGGEST Â STRUGGLE Â IN Â REGARDS Â TO Â YOUR Â CURRENT Â MUSE :
for data, the biggest struggle is how badly i wanna ship him with people but heâs such a hard ship to get into that i donât wanna put any pressure on anyone. i! love! data! in! love!
the biggest struggle with picard is just overcoming my feelings that im somehow betraying TOS by getting into TNG as of late. TOS was such a massively important series to me at the time when I was first watching and getting into it, it helped me to grow as a person in such enormous ways that i wonât bother getting into here-- and the way other TNG fans had reacted to me in the past over being primarily into TOS for so long really really turned me off the series for years. they would generally act like snobs about it and tease or belittle me for being into something as âlowbrowâ as TOS, and so i retalliated by being viciously, LOUDLY anti-TING for a long long time. I only recently finally decided to get over a bias iâve had literally since i was 16 (nine years!) and give it a shot, but the old feelings are still there sometimes.

âBelieve me, I get it, itâs just a shame. Youâre a damn fine officer, and you worked just as hard as anybody else to be here. I guess people hear âandroidâ and they think that Starfleet just handed you those lieutenant commander pips.â Batou just sighs.Â
âI am flattered that you are so offended on my behalf.â
âHowever, it is unnecessary. I find it is much easier to simply ignore them. Their ire will not affect my station in Starfleet; even if an individual became so obsessed with the idea that I did not earn my rank and they took the case to Starfleet Command, they would be shut down before it even arrived in court because they are factually in error.â
Commander Data, something's wrong with Lore. He's not responding to someone calling his name and just shuffles around mindlessly.
âThat is concerning. I will check on him.â
ltbroccoliâ:
âYes. That weâre both, um⌠b-bad at people.â He sighed. âYou⌠you donât feel embarrassment, sir?â
âAn intriguing question. Ever since the emotion chip was installed in my brain, I possess the capability of being embarrassed, however the nuances of shame are lost on me in many cases. I can feel regret and remorse, but those are often not the same thing. My ability to process embarrassment does not mean that I feel embarrassment over my failures. It is simply a learning experience, if I do.â
âI have been accused of being smug or arrogant because I do not feel shame over my mistakes.â

âYes!â He said excitedly, feeling that Data had gotten the idea. âAnd the company,â he added. âIâll organize a movie night, find something so bad itâs funny and you can see what you think.â He said it with some trepidation because he wasnât at all sure if Data would really get it. But he felt it would be remiss of him not to offer Data the experience.
âMight I suggest the old cult classic Sharknado from the 21st century?â
âI have heard nothing but terrible reviews.â
motoredheartâ:

âI canât believe they really said all that stuff about youâŚit just seems so out of character.â He scratches his head. âSome peopleâll really turn on ya once they think theyâve got somebodyâs ear, huh?âÂ
âI am used to it by now.â
âBefore I had an emotion chip, I did not possess the capacity to care about what people said about me, and then by the time the chip was installed, I had been hearing it for so many years that it does not affect me.â
