This is a stop motion animated short I made with the help of my friend and roommate Lucas King as a project for a class with the digital artist and professor of digital arts, Jeff Murphy; for the class Digital Media I in spring 2014. This was shot Shot at Reedy Creek Park and Reserve in Charlotte, NC.

Stop motion is often times the starting point for students who wish to begin studying animation!

The Kiss Kiss Bang Bang intro I just posted earlier utilized the tools After Effects, Alias Maya, Shake, photography, illustration, and cell animation.

These two images are from a book called, Design in Motion, by Spencer Drate, David Robbins, and Judith Salavetz. The book highlights motion graphics from fine film to television sports title graphics and gives brief insight into the production and creative processes behind it all. Another helpful bullet for each example lists the tools which were used in production, and the designers who are responsible for all aspects of production.

Personally, this book was particularly interesting for me because it shows me examples of what has been done already, and helps me to pinpoint want i want in my designs.

So in lieu of my previous post about dream dynamics, and understanding what it is you want out of a creative career, I wanted to share this.

While i was doing so interest research I explored my interest of stage design as an outlet for my future BFA in Digital media degree, which I will obtain.  

While attempting to put my thumb on exactly what a job in this in my area of interest of Electronic and current music, I came across the title of 

User experience designer. or UX Designer

Which is essentially creative slang for a Jack of all trades or a sort of renaissance man of design and creative professionalism. Skills & Experience:

• The ability to bring order and elegance to complex experiences • Advanced empathy for both the user/viewer and clients • Communication Skills: Strong written, verbal, and visual presentation skills • Time/Interaction Based User Flows • Concept sketching skills • Rich Wireframing • Motion & Sound Design sensibilities • Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design, Keynote, etc.

Other Qualifications:

• Insight Driven – always keeping the users behavior in mind. • Agile – able to evolve a design and to work at different levels of detail. • Realist – thinks big but keeps technical feasibility and economic viability in sight. • Evangelizes best practices while pushing boundaries to explore new territory. • Technology agnostic (mobile, screen, touch, gesture, physical ,etc.) • Able to distinguish between good and great work.

As one creative professional in an endless sea of others boasting degrees from top institutions of fine art, one may become easily discouraged. Especially if you lack certain qualities of professionalism in your work and communication with with successful people in the particular industry. With a negative attitude you will likely not gain recognition. This is okay! Aside from recognition of your "dream" which IS the hardest for most, there are certain things you must involve every grain of your existence with to gain status and recognition over all other of the competition. This is coming from someone (me) who has to say the least not always taken the wheel of there own creative potential, and has not obtained the final goal, which hasn't yet been recognized, BUT nevertheless this is okay. 

Take the steps below each morning with 3 ounces of brandy, 1 part cream de' cacao, one ounce of whole cream, and a bit of motivational nutmeg to take the edge off. 

Which leads me number one:

1.) FUN - make it this. What ever your dream is you can begin to understand it by using this simple 3 part Venn diagram

So somewhere in the middle where the poorly rendered happy face has been pictured you can find yourself happiest. 

consideration for teaching me this Venn graph, is a wonderfully positive and wise professor and illustration professor of mine, Jamie Franki. Google his name and you can find that he has obtained a dream of many and has money to show for it, in that case being that Jamie designs money. 

2.) Life is what you make it, and you can attain this dream no matter how  far fetched. Despite any perceptual limitations which may be a source of conflict. 

Remedy this with outreach and activism. Contact with others with similar dreams, talk to them. Once you have realized the happy you in the future make a plan. The detail of this plan is essential.

Hard work will pay off, but only if you talk and share what you have done. No matter how prodigious your work may be, nobody will give a rats ass if you don't share. This is a step i still do not follow and I should, as i am working out in this post the things I need to do to obtain my dream.

3.) Research and active production and execution of ideas

4.) Enrich your self today by learning EVERYTHING. I don't mean everything, I should say everything you can without fainting from exposure

5.) Sacrifice and finding your DISCOMFORT ZONE

One thing which has earned me academic recognition is improving upon what is is that i am struggling with the most within the particular area of interest.

The font used by starbucks for captions in the movie series they produced about "getting together" is one which appears to be hand drawn. There is a growing appreciation in the current design world of the hand made. I feel like if a staple corporations such as starbucks is picking up on this then we should all expect to incorporate more elements of the handmade in our work.

Who was the first prominent rapper you worked with? Around the eighth grade I started doing work for Soulja Boy. That was the first major artist I ever worked with. I used to do little profile pictures for him on Myspace. I wasn’t getting paid or anything, but I was just so happy to be doing work for him. Eventually I think he found another designer, and I stopped designing pictures for him.
