June 2026 Media Journal !!

Where do I even start? I suppose we’ll go down the list.

Movies: By far the best movie I watched in June was Obsession. Low budget indie movies performing better in theaters than major blockbusters makes my amateur filmmaker heart so happy. 🫶🏼 It’s definitely scary…. so I brought a friend and made her hold my hand the whole time! 😅

TV: I binge watched both seasons of The Pitt on a rainy 3 day weekend and now I have to find a way to wait patiently til 2027 for another season. I have never enjoyed medical dramas before but The Pitt does such a good job depicting the challenges faced in modern healthcare with gritty realism and accuracy.

Manga: After 5 years of keeping up with it (and a brief hiatus) I finally finished Akatsuki no Yona (Yona of the Dawn) manga and AhhhhHhhhhhh, I love everything about this story. Truly. One of the biggest themes is forgiveness and Yona’s strength and ability to put her country before vengeance and love before hate is so powerful. Yun has my whole heart! 🩷

Books: The best books I read were the Daughter of Sparta series by Claire M. Andrews which is a very very loose retelling of the story of Daphne & Apollo. Any fan of Greek mythology would enjoy it but it does read very YA. Another great book I read was June Hur’s latest novel, Behind Five Willows, which is essentially Pride & Prejudice in the Joseon period specifically during the Munchebanjeong era when their was strict censorship & a royal ban on reading/distributing unregulated fiction. Historical romance lovers would especially enjoy this book!

May 2026 Media Journal

May was an amazing month!! Gonna keep this one short & sweet however to avoid spoilers since Witch Hat is very much still ongoing. Also, because I have press on nails on right now and literally cannot type.

I didn’t read as many books as I normally do but I did completely catch up with the Witch Hat Atelier manga after watching the first 7 episodes of the anime! Literally if you haven’t read/watched it I don’t care what you’re doing do so right now!!

I also watched The Boroughs on Netflix and was blown away by it. I 100% reccomend it to any sci fi/horror fans. I only watched one full length movie however but since Send Help was really good it’s definitely worth recognizing! Extremely graphic and kinda nauseating at times though. Also, Ariana Grande’s new song is in my head 24/7 right now. I’ve never been too obsessed with her music but this track is a banger!!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a weirder FL than Kang Dan-Sim/ Shin Seo-Ri. She’s like a really fucking strange bird. Not like the ‘bit weird but actually really sexy and cute’. But seriously nuts without any vanity that prevents the batshittery from coming out.

Her dowdy outfits that mix toddler with granny chic. Her rage and her freakouts. Her strange walk. Her stage-y performative laugh. Her (mostly misplaced) smugness. Her egocentrism. Her superstitions.

And that’s how you know it’s real love.

A secretly status-conscious chaebol heir falling for what seems to be an unemployed 24/7 method actor who perpetually shows up as a Joseon royal consort, always tries to close weird nonsensical deals, doesn’t know what a credit card is, who has embarrassed him in public numerous times, and will with 99% likelihood absolutely not be an asset to his business which means meant everything to him?

10/10 adore.
