Let's Be Kind

Today’s Kindness Idea- Be generous to both friends and strangers. Give someone a pair of tickets to a baseball game or concert. It will make their day a memorable one! Or invite someone to go with you for free. If you have two event tickets and someone else backed out at the last minute, call up a friend or co-worker and see if they can go with you. Sometimes spontaneity leads to the best times with friends and family.

This was the commercial I based my rhetorical analysis on. It makes you realize that through the feelings of emotion, happiness, love, and receiving what money can't buy, allows us to have a deeper understanding for what is happening in our world. It persuades you to reflect on your own life and to think about what you truly desire most. 

Everyone deserves a chance.

Be that one person for someone. 

I am well aware that everyone has their baggage but today mine seemed much, much heavier than usual. Needless to say, it was an off day for me. I am not a big talker about my feelings and I definitely don’t like to think that all of my inner emotions are made visible to the public or to complete strangers. After today I realized that was not the case. I was sitting in Starbucks trying to focus on my homework and my mile long to do list - which was basically impossible because of the million things that were on my mind. As my mind kept on drifting..suddenly, this woman I have never seen or met in my life came up to me at my table. She sat down with two coffees. After thanking her profusely for my drink, she began asking me questions about myself, my interests, my school and my life. Throughout the conversation she kept telling me how blessed and beautiful that I am. She later mentioned that she could tell I was having a bad day and wanted to treat me to a coffee and a nice talk with a stranger. We sat and drank our drinks, just talking and getting to know each other - complete strangers becoming friends. An outsider and an individual with no personal interest in the matter by asking questions about my personal life she made me realize how truly blessed that I am, even on my darkest days. I had a terrible day and the fact that someone that I did not know could see that and actually took time out of her day to come and have a conversation with me, getting to know me better in the process meant the world to me. As humans, naturally we are much harder on ourselves than others ever would be. It was so nice to be able to talk to a complete stranger and see myself from their eyes, rather than my own for a change. I had been so focused on doing random acts of kindness for complete strangers that I had not realized that someone may do something like that for me. I am so thankful for the woman that came up to me at the coffee shop and it was an experience that I will never forget and be thankful for. Acts of kindness do not always have to involve money - giving money or buying things for people - sometimes the most impactful acts of kindness could be a simple conversation. That conversation changed my life and helped me realize that I should not be so hard on myself, no matter the circumstances, things are never as bad as they might seem from my eyes.

Make someone's day today!

I heard about Acts Of Kindness through my leadership class in high school. For weeks we talked about various ways we could get students throughout the school to start showing these acts. Doing all of this through leadership, it really opened my eyes as to what acts of kindness could do for people. When someone receives a friendly gesture, it makes them want to continue that and do a nice thing for someone else. Trying to be apart of this movement, one thing that my mom and I did at the grocery store was buy a bunch of flowers and wrote happy notes on them. We went around the Harris Teeter parking lot and attached flowers and notes under the windshield wipers of many cars. We stayed and watched a few people receive their flowers/ notes and we saw their big smiles and happy reactions they had from it. Even though it was a little gesture, It made us feel like we brightened someones day- from then on, I have always loved doing acts of kindness for people and I have realized that the feeling that I get from doing it is far greater than anything else.

This is a video of a girl on her 20th Birthday doing 20 Random Acts of Kindness. This goes to show that giving to people is much greater than receiving. Now I have a few more ideas as to what other Acts of Kindness I could do! 

For my second post I would like to share these pictures that were taken late the other night at the library. I decided to make some fun-fetti cupcakes and give them out to random people through out the building. It gave me a chance to introduce myself and to also meet some new students! I mean, who doesn't love a good cupcake while studying?
