John Cleese calls out to Peter Cook backstage after the criminal court sketch (questioning a witness in a coffin) in the middle of the “A Poke In The Eye With A Sharp Stick”/“Pleasure at Her Majesty’s” show (I think you can hear Peter reply "Sir?" like he's a little Radley schoolboy again, which is so stinkin' cute). He asks for advice on improving the sketch. This clip is so brilliant because Peter is so sharp and John clearly wants to take advantage of his brilliant mind!
I love that you also hear Peter reference that thinking about the logic of the sketch is something he has picked up from Dudley. You can tell that when this show was performed (1976) he was already missing having Dudley to develop material with. Dudley was the only Fringer to not perform in the show, which featured a number of BTF sketches.
The way Peter Cook looks at Dudley Moore
He's trying to pin him in place like a butterfly or something.
In the art gallery sketch it's relentless. Once or twice Peter looks away to save Dudley from corpsing, but much of the time he's daring Dud to keep going. What a double act.
It worked both ways though...
"I’m happy to say that, after fourteen years of working with him, Dudley still makes me laugh a great deal. During the two hours of the show I’m constantly on the verge of hysteria."
Peter Cook - "How I see Dudley Moore", Esquire, 1 August 1974.
Peter Cook getting lippy with Tim Brooke-Taylor and John Cleese at “The Other Awards” premier of the Secret Policeman’s Ball film.
they may be an awful dastardly pair but they had this habit of dancing/waltzing(?) around whenever something good came in their way...

"I can't exactly be intimate with Peter grinning across the way!"
PETER COOK goofs around as DUDLEY MOORE dials his girlfriend in the "Long Distance" sketch from Goodbye Again (1968)
Ive never seen anything with Peter sellers before! Do you have any recommendations? :D
OF COURSE I DO !!! I've seen every major motion picture that Peter Sellers was in and I have to say a large majority of them are not that great BUT. here's my recommendations:
Dr Strangelove. I think this is his best movie not only for him performance wise but in general its a fantastic movie and wonderful if you're into more like silly political satire stuff.
A Shot in the Dark: techinically the second Pink Panther movie but I works well as a stand alone movie. I think it's the best movie in the Pink Panther series because it balances out the silliness. The first Pink Panther is boring when Clouseau isn't on screen and I find the rest of the Pink Panthers to be too silly and slap stick for my tastes.
Being There: I put this one 3rd because its much drier comedy wise and takes itself a little more seriously. It has a similar vibe to Harold and Maude in my opinion? But that's probably because those are the only two Hal Ashby movies I've seen.... It's definitely a testament to Peter's talent as an actor and some of his best work. Like I said I think it leans a little drier, but it still has tons of really funny bits of comedy throughout. I cried.
Honorable mentions:
I think the Ladykillers is a great and silly movie where Peter isn't really the focus but I think his character is really cutie and charmingly silly.
The Naked Truth is also a great movie that sort of shows off Peter's range for comedic characters and I like his acting in that movie.
And this is my somewhat unpopular opinion but I really like The Magic Christian.... its the most 1969 movie you will ever watch and its kind of like if Head (1968) and Bedazzled (1967) had an ugly baby... its kind of stupid and bad but it has ringo starr and john cleese and graham chapman and Peter Sellers of course....
YOU should also of course listen to any of the popular episodes of the Goon Show because the Goon show is arguably the most important influence on all British comedy that came after it and I think its really fantastic and still holds up today when it comes to absurd and surreal comedy.
I also have this letterboxd list of peter sellers movies ranked if that is of any interest..
ok

Happy pride month to Stanley Moon and George Spiggott 🏳️🌈
Honestly one of my favorite weird facts about Peter Sellers is that he had this crush on Cary Grant (who,,, is an absolute bicon) and they got to meet in person a couple times and that Cary Grant was basically the only person on the planet who could convince him to quit smoking,,,, and that he called Peter Sellers “darling Peter” and Peter loved it so much that he told everyone “that’s it. That’s my new name. I want everyone to call me Darling Peter.”
I don’t think he was completely straight tbh.
Bonus: that time Cary Grant showed up to the set of Dr. Strangelove and Peter Sellers was kinda miffed because he happened to visit on a day when Peter was filming his Muffley scenes in his homely little bald cap.
(We’re gonna ignore Stanley Kubrick on the end there)
