Am I You?
They had all wondered about the man in the infirmary. The questions were all the same.Ā Is he okay? Is he traumatized? What did he see? What did he come into contact with? And the most important question that no one wanted an answer to: why was he the only one? They had asked this repeatedly with the other lone survivor of the 12th expedition, and they had both give the same answer: I donāt know.Ā Whereas Lena had answered readily, the soldier seemed to be monosyllabic at best. No more than three or four words at a time, if he wanted to.Ā Previous clips of his interview had been looked over by the scientists. Most, if not all, were baffled by what they saw. If they had not viewed these recorded moments at all, they would have never believed that he knew how to joke, laugh, or flirt. They would have never considered how emotive he was before the 13th expedition. Which only begged more questions than they could ever be able to get answers for. If the soldier knew something, he was not going to. Perhaps he wasnāt able to, due to extensive shock by his encounters.Ā Nevertheless, they kept him for a day longer than they had the previous survivor. They observed him night and day, asking him the same list of questions over and over again. It was all in vain, as he never spoke more or less than he did before. He just looked at them with that same unreadable expression, as calm as a windless day.Ā Before he was permitted to leave the Institute, one of the younger nurses could have sworn that his eyes were changing colors.Ā āIt only a trick of the light,ā her superiors told her.Ā
