来客というものはおかしなもので、不意の来客はそれほど驚かないが、きまりきった客が何か約束があって私の家を訪れてくるというような場合、なんとなくこちらも身構えるような気分になる。怖いというほどではないが、先方が、電車の吊皮にぶらさがったり車の中にうずくまったりしながら、一路、私のところをめざしてきている。その姿を思うと、やはり、なんだか怖い。

This was my personal piece for a group exhibition titled "Ginza", organized by Tokyo Illustrators Society. All the members of the society were asked to do a piece related to Ginza (a well-known city in Tokyo, somewhat equivalent to 5th Avenue in Manhattan). I depicted an Apple store in Ginza, Tokyo.

最近の銀座はシンボルの和光に代表されるような、装飾のある洋風の近代建築は少なくなって、四角い箱のような建物が増えた。その一つがこのアップルストア。ところで、銀座はあまりにも有名なので、当然のことながら宇宙人もしばしば訪れるのである。しばしばとはいっても、そこは宇宙人、日本産鰻程度には珍しいので、多くの人が会いに来るというわけなのだ。

ちょうど川に夕潮がさしてくるのと同じような速さで、土手の上の人影はばらばらとなくなって、桜だけがほの白く残る。この昼のにぎやかさと夕ぐれの寂しさを子供が見逃すわけがないのであるが、おとなという子供のなれの果は、そこを庇ってはくれなかったのである。

渓流の波頭に騒ぐ北風も、一日ごとに荒らだってくる。そして波間に漂う落葉の色を見ると、奥の嶺々を飾っていた紅葉は、そろそろ散り始めて山肌をあらわに薄寒く、隣の谷まで忍び寄ってきた冬に慄いているさまが想えるのである。そのころ、澄んだ渓水の中層を落葉に絡まりながら下流へ下流へと落ちていく魚がある。これを木の葉山女魚という。

セントラルパークにTavern on the Greenというレストランがありまして、これがしばらくクローズしていたのですが、経営者が変わって再開されることになった件で、DuJourという雑誌に寄稿したイラストレーションです。僕自身はこのレストランへ行ったことはないものの、楽しんで描きました。
