when silas is trying to talk sherlock over to his side the natural line of thought is of course that he sees himself in sherlock which is why he's drawn to him over the other kids, and that's obviously what silas literally says, but imo another dimension of silas' favoritism is that sherlock is the most like cordelia out of the holmes siblings and i really don't think you can overlook that in considering what it is about sherlock, specifically, that makes his dad like him so much
i mean like ultimately there are two points in silas' life where he deliberately chooses (or at least attempts to choose) someone for permanent partnership and the first time is him choosing his wife and the second time is him choosing his son/heir. and regardless of the details of what each respective partnership entails that does put cordelia and sherlock in similar positions relative to silas. and he chooses to put them there. hence. is it still an elektra complex if it's the son. or. is it still an oedipus complex if it's the dad.
