Keith almost being able to physically feel when shiro is in danger.
Shiro waking up from a nightmare in a panic and Keith is there, curled next to him and filling the space with his scent and shiro instantly calms.

Keith will snap at anyone who touches him but will openly accept any touches from shiro.
Shiro going into overbearing alpha mode whenever Keith is uncomfortable.
They can usually keep it civil but will occasionally snap at and growl at someone who’s making the other uncomfortable.
Shiro is usually the scarier just because he’s so much bigger and also alpha, but Keith is not an omega to be overlooked. His glare can cut almost as easily as his blades.
Keith’s heat comes and goes and for the next week they reek of each other.

If they’d shown it, shiro running to the black lion to get Keith was an exact mirror of Keith running to black after the fight with Zarkon.
Only Keith would still be there, which might be worse. Can you imagine shiro basically breaking into the black lion and, in the darkness just sees Keith’s limp form in a puddle of blood on the floor. His heart would stop, as his worst fears come true.

Ok but I noticed shiro and Keith are the only two who have had considerable visual changes throughout the show. And they’re mostly tied to each other.
So for Keith, he’s taller and more filled out now from the space whale, but that doesn’t have much to do with shiro despite the fact that he talked to his mom about him a lot. All his others are linked to shiro though. His scar was recieved in the fight with shiro. The revelation of Keith’s Galra mode was brought out from his fight with shiro.
Shiro has some more massive ones, obviously. He has white hair now, from when Keith found him on the Astral plane and got Allura to transfer him. He has a new arm because Keith was forced to cut off his old one in the fight. We don’t see this next one but I believe the writers said his scars and muscle disease are gone since he was transferred. Again, Keith found him.
I’m just now realizing that these were more or less all from their fight. I think they’re really trying to show how deeply the fight impacted them. We see the distance between them in s7 and I personally think that shiro is feeling guilt. I mean, who wouldn’t? And yet, despite that, Keith would still (literally) leap into danger to protect shiro.
One last point from s7 is that shiro isn’t in any of Keith’s “family” scenes, despite Kolivan being in the hospital room (bc he isn’t related to keith). I think this is to show the distinction that they are not family. I also think it’s meant to show feelings changing. Shiro, if his feelings are changing for Keith, would of course isolate himself. He almost killed Keith and Keith saved him again. He watches Keith do all these amazing things this season, and at the end Keith saves him from Sendak, and then shiro comes in atlas to save voltron.
Sorry these likely don’t make much sense it’s just kinda ramblings. But look at the difference in shiro omg

Shiro’s Changing Role In Keith’s Life
Someone brought up something interesting on twitter. In the end credits we had a bunch of scenes about characters families. Allura with Coran and Romelle. Lance with his family. Etc.
But interestingly enough, Shiro was in neither of Keith’s scenes. In the hospital it was Krolia and Kolivian.
And in the graveyard it was just Cosmos and Krolia.
Could this be a sign of Shiro and Keith’s shifting relationship? Illustrating how Shiro doesn’t quite fit in the platonic brother role in Keith’s life anymore? Their bond has not weakened, Keith’s still throwing himself from ships to cut people in half to save Shiro, but maybe the way Keith’s feels about Shiro is starting to move to something a little more romantic.
This always makes me go back to what Joaquim Dos Santos said
And the fact that this season all the characters were trying to get their heads around everything and just as soon as they get back to earth BOOM SENDAK WAR AND COUNTLESS CASUALTIES. So the characters have a lot on their minds and not enough time to process
Especially shiro. Based on his convo with lance when they were traveling in deep space
He’s had ALOT on his mind to process so now wouldn’t be the time to try and settle down ESPECIALLY when they don’t know for certain how long it will take to go to earth and he’s not so sure how things will go with the people he’s gonna see on earth (Adam)
Now we’re back on earth and BOOM Sendak is here, admiral Sanda is being annoying, they have a lot of work to do and shiro still misses one arm: essentially he’s not in a good mental or physical state right now
One thing we know for certain is Keith still has a lot of feelings for Shiro but they weren’t meant to be explored fully in season 7
Now shiro has gotten a new arm, it was painful and a huge adjustment to get used to but now that’s out of the way. Now he’s got one more thing on his mind: regret, pain, Adam is dead. Even if they weren’t going to get back together regardless just knowing that the previous love of his life died is a lot to handle so don’t expect him to just JUMP right into Keith like it doesn’t matter. That stuff takes time
So like Joaquim said, IF shiro recovers (mentally, physically and emotionally: which for the most part he has), He has accepted that these brave soldiers his Ex included are gone now but won’t be forgotten and he has accepted that Keith has grown into a more stable leader and a great man… only then will his relationship with Keith get stronger
So, I’m hopeful for season 8! Optimism here we go!! Season 7 was exactly what shiro needed to realize, understand and accept how his life has changed so much and finally be able to live with it. Once he’s ready, he and Keith have a lot of talking to do
Dude yessssss!!! These points actually filled in the gaps I was missing PERFECTLY. The very absence in a familial setting may actually be quite striking. And as mentioned earlier, Shiro has a LOT to process from this season. He’s gotten a new arm, he’s mourned the loss of his past partner, he’s become a strategic commander of the other half of the war alongside Voltron and he’s even found a power to command and control Atlas like nothing we’ve ever seen.
Shiro has GROWN so much in a single season alongside all of the other Paladins. And there was so much needed dynamics growth on both halves of the field.
Perhaps it’s after all that, that the final hurdle comes between what was and what could be between Shiro and Keith.
Omg you put words to it. While I was watching this season, their relationship just... wasn’t there. It felt empty. Until the end ofc. But yes it would make so much sense that their relationship is changing, and they’re actively trying to make sure we all know that Shiro and Keith ARE NOT BROTHERS. I mean, if I almost died and my brother weren’t there I’d be pissed. But yes they actively removed Shiro from the family scenes but we still clearly see their relationship is as strong as ever! And with the new cover...
They pretty clearly also show this on Shiros side, where Keith is in the same group as Adam. But while Adam is turned away from Shiro, Keith is following him. It almost feels like they’re trying to show Adam leaving Shiro’s mind, and someone else coming in... ? 🤔🤔🤔 anyways these two seasons have fed us well. Thank you voltron crew and cast!
