I've uploaded the next chapter to World Anvil! This one starts off with a flashback and what may or may not be a dream, as well as the Hunters setting up camp and getting some incredibly crucial news. There will be a second part of this chapter.

Chapter release: Terrible Fate (& others)

Apologies for not updating this blog regularly, but if you haven't yet, you should check out the most recent chapters of RENEGADE as you may have missed a few of the newest ones! :]

In terms of the hummelverse.com website, it's online again by the way! Been online for a couple months again already actually after the catastrophic failure and year-long downtime caused by moving it over from my previous hoster. But I didn't have any time to do much needed post-move maintenance so far, which I am slowly catching up with now.

Notes:

The website is now SSL-enabled (using https instead of http), but this doesn't really change anything except that some browsers/extensions should now be less likely to act like it's a malicious page trying to steal your credit card data... (This was genuinely the main reason why I had to change hosters, since the previous one would have charged me 10€ per month extra for it when most others out there have it as a free default for your contract???)

I thought the newsletter signup form was broken, but it only doesn't show up when I use Firefox on my desktop PC so maybe my adblocker is overly zealous. I haven't been writing any newsletters lately partly because of that, but now that I know the signup form isn't actually broken, I'll try to get back into the habit. That means if you cannot see it either on the homepage, please try a different browser or check if one of your browser extensions might be blocking it!

The art gallery works again, but uploading the images is very tedious and time-consuming. I forgot to move over the folder that contained all the images on the server, so I had to wipe the database and have to re-upload them all. It shouldn't interfere with the functionality of the website otherwise, though.

The tumblr post feed on the website is broken and I don't really know how to fix it since the API seems to have changed and I am not fully able to wrap my head around the new code. There's a chance that I'll figure it out eventually but it's very low priority for me right now, especially since I set up a webhook for the HV discord server that does the same job but in a more convenient manner.

The pages for the LEGENDS card game are there on the server, but I have to rework and update them with more current content/info. I'll do that as soon as I'm able and will add a link to the homepage once that's done. But it leads me to the next and last point:

It was never my intention to paywall any of my content, which hopefully should be clear by now, so the paid versions have been primarily meant for supporting my work by essentially leaving a tip as you take the nicely compiled book with you. But Amazon simply does not offer any flexible pricing options (as far as I'm aware). That's fine for the printed versions since there's material and processing costs involved, but for the ebooks I haven't been very happy with this solution.

Looks like I'm on a roll now, well I do want to finish this story eventually. It's already past the halfway point, and I'm excited to share more progress towards its eventual resolution.

In Chapter 5.1 - Unwinded, exhaustion finally gets the better of the Scarecrow. But that means they miss the visit of a very special someone - if they hadn't, there's no guarantee matters wouldn't have gotten out of hand a lot more than they already do, however.

Our protagonist and their quirky entourage manage to arrive at Tow in one piece, despite the nightly disruption. And rather than admitting that they completely forgot why they went there in the first place, Zephyr lets themself be roped into joining a group of self-proclaimed Black Death hunters.

It was pretty difficult to make up my mind about what I really wanted this chapter to be like, and I'm actually convinced that if I hadn't taken this much time to contemplate, it would have looked completely different. It would have lacked a lot of additional plot and character development, for sure, and that way it would have felt too much like a filler chapter that only served to move the story along.

So, in summary, I appreciate everyone's patience during the long wait, but also I don't regret spending as much time on this chapter as it needed to fully reveal itself to me.

Published two new chapters (Night Terror & Day Of Celebration), the first one I apparently forgot to release even though it’s been finished for a while... 😳

Winter time approaching has inspired a new Hummelverse short story! Follow the link to read it - this time the protagonists are the eccentric Luchs Brotherhood who get a visit from angry neighbors.

Based on feedback from my readers I’ve decided to start including little “What vehicles appear in this story?” guide at the beginning of each story from now on (might add them to existing stories too later on!) which shows images and a little blurb to help readers not familiar with every tank type ever know what to imagine them to look like (if they’re not explicitly described within the story).

A couple new cards for the first LEGENDS card game expansion have gotten their finished artwork! The card design has also been updated a bit. The list of cards and their stats/abilities for this expansion are finished, but the artwork will still take a while to complete.

Eventually, the starter set will be re-released with the updated designs and via a different shop. But that’s still in the future.

I wrote up an announcement and explanation about why I’ll be reverting my Patreon account to a non-creator account in the coming days.

TL;DR would be... I’m no longer in a financial circumstance where I need to worry about my creative efforts paying my living expenses in the case of an emergency one day. It luckily never became a reality, and the whole thought that it one day might actually distressed me more than it was worth.

I create because I enjoy creating, and having to create for the judgement of customers rather than the enjoyment of a community made it impossible for me to feel happy with what I was creating.
