As she walked through her home she heared starnge noises coming from the kitchen. What she finds in there, leaves her shocked.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was already past midnight, as a long shadow crept through the castle over the silk carpet. Usually at that time she'd be in her study room to get some work done. After all, she's still a workaholic. The Countess walked through the halls, down the stairs, through the gigantic hallway to the kitchen, as she heard strange noises. The woman stopped in her tracks and listened closely. There it was again. This time Lady Dimitrescu could hear it more clearly. Someone was crying in the kitchen. Normally the Lady would have gone straight back to bed, because being confronted with other people's emotions and comforting them wasn't quite one of her strengths, but something kept her from going straight back to her study room. A strange feeling wrapped around her and in a moment of clearly not thinking straight, she opened up the kitchen door. The door silently cracked open, just a few inches, so Lady D could see through. Her eyes wandered around the room, trying to get used to the darkness and suddenly came to an abrupt stop. At the small table, a woman sat with her back turned away. Alcina turned back into the dark corridor, trying to figure out what to do next. She took a deep breath.
The tall woman turned around and suddenly stood face to face with the woman that, just a few seconds ago, was crying at her kitchen table. ,,My lady", she bowed. ,,If i disturbed you or distracted you from working, I am deeply sorry. My apologies. I will go to bed now and won't distract you again. Have a good night." With that the woman bowed again, eyes on the floor at all times and slipped past the taller woman. Lady Dimitrescu thought for a quick second, turned around and said. ,,Wait! Why were you crying? What is going on with you?" She didn't know where that sudden care came from, that feeling of having to be there for that poor thing. She never expected that from herself.
The maiden stopped midway up the stairs and whispered: ,,Don't worry about it. Not to be disrespectful but I think that I should handle it myself. I don't want to bother you with my problems whatsoever, my lady." Lady Dimitrescu looked up at the smaller woman. She couldn't help but feel a deep, deep desire to hold her, care for her and protect this vulnerable woman from every evil thing that the world had to offer. She climbed up the stairs, to her maidens level, took her hand and said: ,,come with me, child. You don't bother me, I will make time for you and we will work out whatever it is that is going on with you, I don't care how long it may take. I care for you. I want to help you. Please talk to me darling." The maid locked eyes with her and slightly nodded. ,,I appreciate you, trying to take care of me, but I don't know if anyone can help me with this. You see, it's that I've been in a very very bad situation lately. My mind won't shut up at night and if I get in my own head to much I think I might explode. Because of that I stopped eating, started hating my body, hated how I looked and I can't sleep through the night because my mind just won't shut up. I don't know what to do anymore!" She started tearing up. Tears running down her cheeks she continued: ,,I feel like I'm falling and falling and falling without ever hitting the ground. It seems like I just can't catch myself and someone else won't do it for me. I mean whom do I have in this castle? I'm not really friends with the other maidens and I won't even dare to demand you or your daughters to take care of me. I mean I work here to take care of YOU! Not the other way around. So I kinda only have myself but that doesn't really help me. Tonight it was just too much and I had a breakdown in the kitchen about the food I was forcing myself to eat. That's what you saw in the kitchen earlier. Usually I stay in my room to cry and handle the situation but tonight I just couldn't control myself. Everything was just too much. I'm sorry you had to see that. I'm sorry I disrupted you. It will never ever happen again. Forgive me, my lady." Not once has the maiden looked at her as she was talking. But Lady Dimitrescu had studied her face, her body language, the way she talked and moved during her speech. What she found was a pour, fragile child, that wanted nothing more than to be loved and taken care of. And if she couldn't do that for herself anymore than, the Countess swore, she would do anything, to get this girl the help and support she needed.
The tall woman chose her next words very carefully. ,,okay. I know you have been struggling, I could see that. I want you to know that you matter. I want you to know that you can come to me whenever there is something you want to talk about or you just need company or a shoulder to cry on. Whatever time it is, whatever I'm doing. I don't care about that. I care about you. I want you to get better and I want to teach you that life is worth living. I want to show you the things that make you want to live. I need you to promise me that, whatever it is, what time it may be, you will come and talk to me if you feel the need to. I'm here for you and I deeply, deeply care for you. Please know that, sweetheart. Let me help you heal and let me support everything you do. You are loved and you are appreciated and you will be taken care of. Just know that, alright darling?" The maiden finally looked her in the eyes, flung her arms around the older woman and cried. ,,Thank you so much, my lady. I deeply appreciate you and I am so, so, so deeply grateful for this Job and the person I can work for. Thank you for your support. Thank you for catching me.“ with a final tear running down her cheek. she whispered into the countesses ear: ,,Thank you for preventing me from falling even further."
