Worn-out badge,

Uninterrupted fields of blue and white above my head.

No white headlights to fill the black, instead

a broken clock that begins to tick once again

gentle waves becoming violent,

I apologise so much

Because everyone has always made me feel like a burden.

               For once,

No hope of capture by pirates or rescue

Chemically treated frogs are a constant reminder that our ancestors have cursed us

Someone out there is listening to me

Noticing the cries for help and reaching out

When this is over…

Secretly I will

Never stop wanting you as mine.

I opened the window that faces onto the street

greeted only by blackness

and wondered if you too were gazing into the expanse,

if you feel yourself crumbling,

don’t resist.

I will be here to sift through the rubble

And preserve only the best parts

I am not my mistakes

I am not what I suffered

he didn’t let me join in with his friends, kept me outside ignoring the grey skins surrounding.
