Join the Cassandra Project

fuckit: a zine is looking for submissions!  If it’s about a time you said “Fuck it; let’s do this,” then that would be perfect.  If you would like to say “Fuck it; let’s do this” and write/create something you have been madly procrastinating on, that would also be good.  Art, essays, fiction, poetry, anything that can be printed out on paper and stapled, basically.   

Because this is my first zine and I a) have no idea whether people are going to want to buy it or not and b) would like to keep it priced dirt cheap (I’m thinking about $3 USD a copy), compensation will unfortunately start at contributor copies, probably some stickers, and my undying love and affection. 

The goal is to publish on January 31st, 2020, so I’d like to have submissions by January 1st so I can get the layout together.  If you’re interested, you can send me an ask, use the messenger, or my gmail address is the same as my username here but with a gmail on it.

So it is officially past Christmas and the muzak at work has finally turned away from carols (and I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy to hear The Same Fifteen Songs We Always Play in my life) but anyway that means it is time to start thinking about the New Year and such, and I have been thinking, and the thought is this:

I don’t think Project: VOTE MOTHERFUCKER VOTE should be a chapbook.

I don’t think it’s enough.  I think it’s a single, concentrated shout, and that’s something, but what we really need is a chorus of fucking fire alarms going off at random intervals.  I think we need to be perpetually flicking our followers’ ears going “Hey.  Hey.  Hey.”  I think we need to be fucking Navi from Legend of Zelda, and here is how we do this:

Just fucking post about voting.  Once a week, if you’d like, or once a month if that’s more your speed.  Once a fortnight, if that’s how you feel.  Pick your interval – daily, hourly if you’ve got the will and the chutzpah – and post about voting that often.  Post/reblog a link to a good article.  Make some art that expresses how you feel about voting.  Put the words VOTE MOTHERFUCKER VOTE into whatever meme generator happens to be trendy in that five-second span of time and post it.

Post information about voting.  Post information about voting-related charities.  Gleefully trash the politicians you hate the most while talking up their opponents.  Whatever you think will get people not only registered to vote but also out there on the day, in their polling locations, ready to kick some ass and earn that fucking sticker.  Just do it, do it, do it, do it from New Year’s to Election Day.

So that’s your New Year’s Resolution suggestion from me to you.  That’s the challenge I want you to give yourself.  Say “Once a day/week/fortnight/month 45-day-cycle/whatever, I am going to tell my followers to go out and vote” and then follow through on that.

Just yell, really.  Just yell a lot.  I know people say that doesn’t help, but where the fuck does silence get you it isn’t real far I speak from experience.  So let’s make a consistent racket.

Also I’m going to try to come up with some swag, maybe not by New Year’s but within the month of January.  I just need to actually map out my pattern and start embroidering that shit.  It’ll be flowery.  It’ll be cool.

A little over a year ago, I had a dumb idea and put it up on tumblr real fast before I went to work and didn’t think anything would come of it, but today there is a thing where there was not a thing before, and all of that is because of you guys, so thank you all.

Price; art by Naderegen, Heather Bain, and myself; and this thing involving graphs and statistics that I can’t even describe but goddamn it’s cool.  Every penny raised by the sale of this book is going to benefit RAINN, the United States’ largest anti-sexual violence organization.

There is some good goddamn stuff in this book, not at all limited to the graph thing (although the graph thing is pretty cool.)  Reblog it around, exhort your friends to buy it, raise some money for RAINN.  It is only five dollars a book, because I am making people pay their own shipping this time.  Get it for Christmas for everyone you know.  Make all your friends buy it for you.  I’m sure it’ll fit terrific in a stocking.  Or, being rectangular, it should be simple to wrap and is not large enough to require much paper.  Do your planned New Year’s Resolutions involve reading more poetry and donating to charity?  Now you can do both!  It slices!  It dices!  It doesn’t actually do either of these, but it’ll fit decently in your glovebox so you can think about prophecy while driving.  Guys, it’s a good book raising money for a good cause.  Just buy the dang thing.

Those of you who have bought chapbooks from me before will know that I usually do free shipping on them and just factor that into the cost.  I hadn’t wanted to do that with this one because I felt like it would overly complicate things with wanting to donate the whole cost of the book to RAINN, and that it would be easier just to have you guys pay shipping to Etsy.  And while I was at it, why not have them calculate the costs of the shipping?  Nice.  Simple.  Easy.

IT TURNS OUT – Etsy goes for the expensive shipping with tracking and stuff that costs way more than the book, and that feels pretty damn weird to me and apparently it felt weird to some of you guys too.
