Everyone, male or female, should read this book. The book is adapted from the author's TEDxEuston talk.
"I would like to ask that we begin to dream about and plan for a different world. A fairer world. A world of happier men and happier women who are truer to themselves. And this is how to start: we must raise our daughters differently. We must also raise our sons differently..." --From We Should All Be Feminists
Feminist: a person who believes in the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes.
Reading in bed is a self-centered act, immobile, free from ordinary social conventions, invisible to the world, and one that, because it takes place between the sheets, in the realm of lust and sinful idleness, has something of the thrill of the forbidden.
Alberto Manguel, A History of Reading (via abookblog)
Since it is so likely that children will meet cruel enemies, let them at least have heard of brave knights and heroic courage
C.S. Lewis
“I love bookshelves, and stacks of books, spines, typography, and the feel of pages between my fingertips. I love bookmarks, and old bindings, and stars in margins next to beautiful passages. I love exuberant underlinings that recall to me a swoon of language-love from a long-ago reading, something I hoped to remember. I love book plates, and inscriptions in gifts from loved ones, I love author signatures, and I love books sitting around reminding me of them, being present in my life, being. I love books.
Laini Taylor, (author of Daughter of Smoke & Bone and Days of Blood & Starlight)

“Your job — as students who are receiving an education — is to be aware of your privilege. And use this particular privilege called “education” to do your best to achieve great things, all the while advocating for those in the rows behind you.”

The Girl
The dress was a bold emerald green that skimmed delicately over perfect curves. The bodice, tight across her ample chest, formed a lovely sweetheart neckline. A beautiful diamond and emerald necklace shone brightly against her pale throat. Her red curls fell in thick waves down her back, coming to a stop just above the curve of her rear. She smiled warmly and her jade green eyes sparkled when she looked at me. I found myself in awe, completely unable to speak, I simply stared. I had never seen anything so beautiful—no, perfect—in my life. Her smile slipped from her face and her eyes slid to the floor as she reached up to fiddle with her necklace and asked, “Do I look alright?” I was shocked from my silence by her self-consciousness. I reached out and took her hands in mine to keep her from shifting uncomfortably. I gently lifted her chin to ensure I could see her perfect face and she could look into my eyes and see that I was being genuine. I smiled my most loving smile and softly told her the truth, “This is nothing but a dream, my angel. Though you are as stunning and wondrous as I remember.” I touched her face and murmured, “I have always and will always love you and protect you, even now.” I kissed her lips and held her close…
She awoke breathless and dazed. She felt around her and found she was alone in her bed, the soft silk sheets wrapped around her body. Slowly, the dream dissipated, and she returned to reality. The pain slammed into her chest and the tears came once again. She rose slowly from her bed and quietly dressed. The sun shone brightly outside her windows, mocking her pain. She took a deep breath and walked outside. When she arrived at her destination, she once again paused and breathed deeply, reminding herself that it would all be okay. She walked slowly and deliberately for a few minutes, coming to a stop in front of a large marble headstone. Her resolve crumbled and the tears flowed freely as she fell to her knees. The cold stone offered her no comfort, but I could, even if she couldn’t feel it. I wrapped my arms around her as she sobbed and I whispered softly, “I’m here darling. Please don’t cry, my love.” She showed no sign of having heard me, but I held her close all the same. She stopped crying enough to say, “I miss you.” I sighed, the separation from her as painful as ever, and I wished she could hear my reply, “I am always with you.” She lifted her head as if she had heard my voice, and laid her hand on my headstone. I covered her hand with mine and kissed the top of her pretty head. “I love you,” she whispered. My reply was simple, “As do I, my angel. Always and forever.”
It’s sad that “I have a boyfriend” is more likely to get a guy to back off than “no”…apparently guys have more respect for other guys than they do for women.
jace during basically every tmi book: i recognise the council has made a decision but given that it's a stupid ass decision, i've elected to ignore it.
You can’t have ‘too many’ books.

Imagine a volcano erupting and covering the whole town in lava. Kids everywhere would be like ‘This… this is what we’ve trained for’
I can’t believe how many confused messages I got for this… I’m referring to the ‘ground is lava game’ have none of you played that? Am I lone wolf? Did any of you have a proper childhood?
