Have you listened to Night Vale at all. Cecil flatout says he’s in love with Carlos, they’ve been on fucking dates holy shit what.

God forbid queer people be EXCITED that they have a representation for once! Fuck, yeah, everything is a joke. It’s so laughable that today’s media is so AGAINST the idea of a queer couple being public that Tumblr clings to the only one they have. Yeah. Fucking hilarious.

But while I’m on the topic, I actually will talk about one of my favorite queer couples in the media, and that’s Cam and Mitchell on Modern Family.  They’re a couple, they have a daughter, and they just happen to be gay.  It’s a comedy show, and yet they’re just like any other of the families on the show, rather than be the butt of any gay jokes.  And I would say a fairly popular TV show is way more significant than a little podcast with a very niche audience.

What got me with the whole Carlos thing being comedic was that Cecil would break his professionalism to gush about his little mancrush.  That made it seem a bit odd and unusual to me.  And also the focus of the podcast seems to be about this strange desert town, rather than a story about a gay couple.  And that’s great if they are a normal gay couple and all, but when Tumblr swoops in and magnifies the Carlos thing to the point where it overshadows anything else going on in Night Vale, that makes me super wary about what people’s motives may be.

That being said, I mostly stand by my original sentiment here. "Mostly," because I don't remember anything about Nightvale, and my distaste for it was because I was just sick of hearing about it from said toxic roommate, so the feeling towards it were not very valid or genuine.

But I do still agree with what I said about the "Tumblr attitude," which I hope has also grown and evolved as I have. As someone who identifies with two of the letters in "LGBT" - someone who has learned and grown a lot in the past years... The comment here on this post is performative nonsense.

Yes, representation is important and lacking... even moreso when I posted this than compared to today. You don't need to dramatize that to make it valid. You also don't need it to validate your enjoyment of a fandom. It's great if people find good representation in media that's important to you!!! But also it's just ignorant and dismissive as hell to say that YOUR thing is the ONLY one with good representation. It's dismissive and invalidating to the community.

Also representation, itself, doesn't always mean that it's good. Look at Kurt from Glee, or Mulan in Once Upon a Time. There is such a thing as performative, insincere representation. (But kudos to OuaT for making Dorothy queer, at least!)

I have ALWAYS been exhausted with how people constantly cry about no queer content available while ignoring several good examples of representation. One of my biggest examples has always been the Young Avengers. There are exactly 0 straight white men on the Young Avengers (unless you count Noh-Varr? idr what his deal is). Even still, even now that the YA are being introduced into the mainstream MCU, few people seem to care. But it has always seemed that folks would rather be crybullies and claim "lack of content" instead of seeking out and promoting the positive examples that are out there.

Maybe this take is still a bit hot, maybe I'm still not fully phrasing it correctly, but god damn.

Among all the safety concerns of Amazon employees in the Fulfillment Center - I mean, on a normal day there’s concerns, but now this COVID-19 pandemic on top of all that - do you know what the company’s response is?

Why, did the richest man in the world finally provide PPE to his employees? HAH! Haha that’s cute to think he’d do something like that.

Nope, the cameras in the Fulfillment Centers have been reprogrammed to take screenshots of employees as they work. The screenshots are sent to a virtual team who then decides if they are standing less than 6 feet apart, or if they are as safe distance.

I’m 100% all for supporting safety in the FCs, but holy. damn. shit. My first instinct was “this is like putting a band-aid on a heart attack,” but the truth of what this really looks like is not just heavy policing on workers, but also placing the burden of responsibility on them, giving Amazon reasonable deniability that, “Well, we TOLD them to stand 6 feet apart.”

When you’re working hours upon hours in the same facility as hundreds of other people, what goddamn good is the “6 ft apart” rule gonna do for you? You’re walking into other people’s germ clouds, surfaces they may have touched, etc. These employees need HELP, not policing and not blame.

In cases where people are marked as “too close,” I’m curious how they even know who to coach. Anyone if the FC - have you had experience with this yet? Is there a real threat of being fired? Is it being handled poorly?

We were told this project was just to “help” with safety, but now I’m hearing people could get fired. I am NOT comfortable with that and I would just love to hear the perspective from the other side.

And no, I wasn’t being rude. All I even got the chance to say was that people don’t deserve to starve because they don’t meet your standard of education and that the minimum wage was exactly designed to be the minimum required to survive, so I wasn’t anticipating a titty baby fit to screenshot the whole thing.

Let me repeat that to fully emphasize how shitty Target treats their employees -

A friend of mine is Target Mobile, so since she’s not a Target employee technically, they have recently barred her from the break room. She now has to take her breaks in café, in a public space.

I reviewed video of my apprehension, and we have video of exactly nothing happening to this woman. She was standing outside near the front when it happened.

OH. I’M SORRY. IT WAS ONLY A $1600+ APPREHENSION ON A GUY THAT HAD SEVERAL THEFT INCIDENTS THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT.
