No Power In The Verse Can Stop Me

Disclaimer: I'm not a cannibal simply because I consume the meat.  Or because I'm not even sure why I'm writing this disclaimer.

Why do I do this to myself?

"Getting off the planet would be exciting." Though he pauses and looks at her. "We should be on Osiris." Which is Core. And now he’s even more confused, just where is he? "There’s not much too Core though, rules and structure, and a lot of studying."

An eyebrow is cocked and a hand settled on her hip.  "If we're planet-side, we're on Kowlonshi.  But from the sounds of it, we ain't anywhere."  He's confused obviously.  Or it's a game.  It might be a game.

She doesn't mind the jostling at all, or the fact that he is very, very close to her.  She relishes it, actually.  Brings little reminders of how everything went down yesterday.  She listens to his medical advice and then props her feet up, leaning against him.  His words, well, they make the knots in her stomach tighten slightly.  This is exactly what she was worried about.  "Oh, right.  Um, yeah, shiny...," she murmurs.  "I understand."  Hair gets tucked behind her ear as her cheeks burn with embarrassment.  Food begins to be shovelled in her mouth to prevent her from talking.

Eyes slip up to watch her when she takes that deep breath, trying to gauge how much pain she’s in for it. Though after a moment, he stands and moves back in front of her. “They don’t talk to me, so much as cry when they need to be taken care of. Yours seems good though. No internal bleeding and you’re healing well. Though, looks a little strained. Have you been stretching to reach things you shouldn’t?”

It's a big "mosquito bite", that's true.  It hurts some, of course, but she's trying to not let on that it's best when he gives her something to take the edge off.  "Can only direct Jayne so long," she says, before shifting to sit again, looking winded and tired.

She crossed her arms. “If I don’t what do I get out of it?” Normally she wouldn’t have anyway. Maybe she was spending too much time with the crew. “I don’t want him to be that upset. Do you?”

The sun has nearly disappeared beneath the horizon. Just a sliver of orange remains. Seems like their time left dirtside was coming to a close. Probably for the best. They hadn’t exactly made friends this stopover. Still, it had been a very long time since any of them had seen stars from a place that wasn’t black. “Guess it’s time to get Serenity up in the air, huh?”

"Seems like she's ready," Kaylee agrees.  "D'ya think that the Captain might agree to make a pit stop on Kowlonshi when we head toward Triumph again?  I'd like t'see my Momma and Daddy again."

The dress itself is done! I managed to finish everything at a sewing party with my friends and then promptly went on Spring Break and left it in my dorm. I’m still waiting on the doily for the front, but I am so so happy with how it has turned out!

River knows. On some level, even if she doesn’t completely understand all the references. She’s still learning, about the ‘verse, about the slang and cultures outside of the box she’d been kept in, figuratively and literally. “Men are dummies. Way they were made.” Her lips quirk a little. “Just have’ta ride the waves, enjoy the calm.” Everyone is aware he’s an idiot. Especially his sister. But he’s their idiot. “He’ll fix it. Soon as he licks his wounds. Hurts him that he hurt you. Guilt. Pain.” She pauses, eyes closing as she tries to focus, getting too lost in everything. “He’ll fix it. He always does.” 

"Under his...stupid," she says, bluntly.  "He's a good man.  And  I know he loves me and mostly means well."  She would say always, but that's simply not the truth.  "I love him, River.  I just sometimes wanna throw somethin' at him.  Does that make me sound bad?"
