Let me tell you guys something. When I came to America, I was only 7 so I learned English pretty quickly and without an accent. I can pretty much convince everyone I’m a white American if I want to because I’m THAT passing. My mom was older so it took a while longer for her to learn English and she still has an accent (not as thick as the woman in the video but very noticeable) when she speaks. And I remember how so many of these white Americans made me feel ashamed when my mother would speak her accented English. I remember feeling so embarrassed and scared of what people would say to her or if they would think we were stupid. I was made to feel that perfect white English was superior and my mother was below that in their eyes. I cannot tell you how much this video made me cry. In America we speak all languages. We are not useless or stupid. We will not go back to the places we fled just because we refuse to give up our native tongue. Do not insult us. Please.
