It seemed like they were running for hours. The hunters had tracked them down and they kept dodging arrows and bullets alike. Cora looked around to see who of the pack had stayed together and who had gotten separated. It appeared that it was just her and Isaac who had taken this route. They had gained a respective lead over the hunter who opted to follow them; however, they had yet to be completely in the clear. She started running over to Isaac and in an instant, she realized that he was in the path of a slew of arrows. “Watch out!” she yelled as she bounded over to him, pushing him up against a nearby tree to keep him out of the arrow’s trajectory. “Are you trying to get killed?”

Carter looked at all of the dogs. His boyfriend being into dogs just like him made him excited. He looked at all the breeds but Rocco was the most receptive. “Hm. Yeah we should’ve but if anything we can give them time. I’m sure he’d be fine as long as he isn’t ignored.” He explained. Cosmo was also friendly with other dogs when he took him to dog parks so maybe he’d be friendly with another friend. “Well I’m letting you pick, since you let Cosmo move in with us.” He said petting the dog’s that were coming around them.

Carter moved in and kissed him softly. “Yeah, they do.” He said looking at him, he looked so peaceful. He hiked his leg around his, to come closer to the wolf. “We’d be together.” He said, knowing he’d be nervous about meeting them. “You’re not taking time away.” Carter said reassuring. “Look if you don’t want to, I understand. It’s asking a lot considering.” He said, knowing the wolf wasn’t exactly out at least to his own family.

Carter smiled as he kissed his boyfriend’s chin, enjoying the wolf’s arm around him. “So nothing specific, I get it.” he said, sighing as he was wide awake. He ran his hand through Corbin’s hair, the action itself kind of soothing himself. “Sooo…um.” he said, unsure how to bring this to Corbin’s attention but eventually he knew he’d have to meet Corbin’s family or the other way around, his family. “My parent’s are going to be in town next weekend…No pressure, and don’t think I’ll be upset if you decline but they want to meet you.” he explained to the other as he looked up at him, gauging his reaction. 

Corbin’s eyes fluttered shut as he felt his boyfriend’s hand through his hair. It was one of his weaknesses and for the briefest moment, he was relaxed. That all turned as soon as Carter mentioned meeting the parents. The good news was that they knew about Corbin. They had to if they wanted to meet him. But it was a whole other step in their relationship that he wasn’t sure that he was ready for. He hadn’t even come out to his own family, so the prospect of meeting Carter’s was somewhat daunting. “They want to meet me...” he repeated quietly. “I don’t know... I don’t want to take away from your family time and all.”

Carter was taken aback by all the animals, looking at all the dogs. “Um they’re all adorable.” he said, laughing a bit. He honestly made the right choice in a boyfriend given his excitement about dogs. “It’s all good, we don’t need those specific breeds.” he said, as he approached Rocco, who sniffed his hand and did the thing where he made his hand go on his head letting Carter pet him. “He seems friendly with the other dogs too.” he noted as he saw him slightly playing with another dog. He’d hope Cosmo would be more receptive to another dog. 

“They’re so fuckin’ adorable,” he chuckled as he squatted down to the dogs’ levels. There were so many to pick from to the point where he wasn’t sure how to choose. “Maybe we should’ve brought Cosmo to see how he would react to another dog. I was just too excited to show you who all’s here.”

Isaac held her hand as he offered her choices, allowed her to pull away if she wanted, to reverse whatever they did the night before, partially wondering how they even ended up back in this hotel. Allowing her to dress he adjusted on the bed, “Exactly. We need that paperwork before we make any sort of decision….” He looked down at his hand and turned the band on his finger, sighing, the addition didn’t feel weird on his hand, he almost liked how it looked, his eyes falling on her own ring, seeing out it seamlessly fit her finger, in both how it fit on her finger and how it fit her as a person. “If we find the paperwork….what did you want to do about it?”

“Neither can I.” he said snuggling up to his boyfriend. “I knew I shouldn’t of had coffee just to get through my assignment.” he laughed a bit. “Why can’t you sleep babe?” he asked, curious why the wolf was still up

Corbin shrugged, wrapping an arm around Carter’s torso. “I have everything and nothing on my mind. A lot of useless information and unimportant questions buzzing around in there, ya know?”

Carter had held his hand as they left the apartment. He never would’ve seen himself with the man next to him. However he was glad he met this man, he couldn’t see himself with someone else. Especially after finding out what Corbin was it only brought them closer. The wolf made him happy, even though he felt things moved fast, but he also felt, if it felt right why question things? “A shiba inu, is very cute or a Corgi. I feel we should stick to small breeds given Cosmo is small. If I could I’d adopt a bunch of teacup Pomeranians.” he teased but thought about it. “But I want you to choose the dog, it’s only fair.” he said to his boyfriend. “Cosmo is friendly with large dog breeds as well.” he said, as they walked to the area where there were the adoptive dogs. 

Corbin pulled his boyfriend over to the puppy area of the adoption fair and pointed out some of the ones that he had spotted earlier. “That french bulldog is named Rocco. He’s a cuddly one with me, but with everyone else, he was growling. And then there’s the maltipoo that’s super fluffy over there. I think it’s named Harley,” he gushed. “There might have been a corgi around here somewhere. I don’t know if they had any shiba inus though.”

Carter smiled as he nodded. “They do, it is Astrophysics and well I’m most likely taking that degree to become a teacher.” he said, enjoying instructing a class considering he had done a few guest lecture’s part of some of his class finals. “I mean he isn’t telling me I can’t work, he just wants me to not feel distracted from my studies.” he said to her, yeah it may seem like his Mate was being like he had to be at home, and do the chores but it wasn’t like that at all. “Bartending isn’t any different then being a server or a barista, but it does have a lot more tips involved.” he explained. “Customer service is tough, it does require sometimes to be fake, but you meet some nice people down the line.” he said to Cora and took a drink of his water. “How about you, you travel but do you any jobs on the side?” he asked, wondering what she did in her spare time. 

“Astrophysics? That’s impressive. No wonder you need a job. It would be more distracting not being able to pay for that kind of degree. Good for you,” she replied with a nod. “I’ve had plenty of side jobs. Bartending included, but those never last too long. Quite a few bounty hunting or private investigating of the non-supernatural kind... I got to work at pet store one time. I meshed more with the animals than I did with the actual customers.” Cora thought back to the rest of the jobs that could fill that list and thought it was better not to disclose them all. She wasn’t entirely too proud of some of them that she had to do in order to get by; however, they were her necessary evils. “I tried school for a spell. I got too distracted for it.”
