My ancestors would have wanted pasteurization, vaccines, antibiotics, disinfectants, birth control, psychiatric medications, pain management, anesthesia. My ancestors would have wanted to be able to keep their loved ones around longer, and not lose them too early/too soon to childbirths, injuries, bacterial infections, mental illnesses, and diseases that are curable and/or preventable in our modern day life.
That is to say, if you have a hard time knowing what to offer today, if you have little left to stand on, but you want to be with the Gods, anyway - sit with them.
Don't underestimate the importance of being present. It's easy to believe it's not enough, but being mindful with them is better than avoiding your altars and shrines out of guilt.
Burnout is an insidious beast. It's obligation's angry cousin.
"I have to give offerings every day-"
"Today was awful and I didn't have time-"
"I feel bad that I didn't offer anything today-"
But what happens when you have 2, 3, maybe even 7 days like this? Do you feel so bad about it that it's hard to bounce back?
"I've been neglecting my Gods and I'm upset with myself for it-"
Next time, day one of low energy, low time, low mood: Sit with them. Think about them. Talk to them. By your altar. In your car. On the bus. Laying in bed.
Think of it like you're sending a text to someone you care about.
"Hey. Today was bad. I know I usually do ___, but I don't have it in me today. I just wanted to let you to know I love you."
You'd be surprised. Sometimes just sitting with them gives you a second wind, too.
Hug a loved one for Baldr. I'm serious. Call a friend, ask about them. Tell someone you love them, and let them know you care. Truly care about someone, and open up to them if you're feeling up to it. You only get one life with them. It's one of the most precious lessons that Baldr teaches.

Freyja (lit. "The Lady" in Old Norse) is the Vanir Goddess of the domains of Love, Sex, Fertility, Death, War, and Magic. She is a major goddess in the Norse Pantheon, and is widely credited with teaching the Aesir SeiΓ°r, a longstanding tradition of fate-weaving whose practice goes back to women in late Iron Age Scandinavia.
Freyja has many associations, both within traditional scripture and modern pop culture and witchcraft. Animals associated with Freyja are cats (Her chariot is pulled by two cats, as shown above), boars (Her mount, Hildisvini, is a giant boar), and falcons (Her cloak, Valshamr, allows her to transform into a falcon and fly across the nine realms). She's associated with the colors White, Red, and Gold, and the traditional crystals associated with her are Amber (known as "Freyja's Tears"), Red Jasper, and Rose Quartz. Some flowers and herbs that are associated with The Lady are Daisies, Common Milkwort (known as "Freyja's Hair" in traditional Scandinavian), Columbine, Mugwort, Primrose and Roses. Her day of worship is Friday, and her associated number is 13.
Below are some things you can do to honor Her:
Create an altar, shrine, or protected space dedicated to Her and other Norse deities.
Donate to your local cat shelter or wildlife rehabilitation center.
Communicate with your ancestors through divination (tarot, pendulum, flame reading, etc.)
Honor any family members or pets that have passed on, especially cats and women, through placing daisies on their grave.
Improve and practice your craft in ways that are transformative or healing (glamor magick, mirror spells for self-reflection and/or protection, self-love spells).
Bathe or shower in floral lotions, soaps, and body oils, and dedicate your self-care to Her (write an incantation or prayer for your shower).
Set up a skincare routine dedicated to Her on your days off or Friday evenings.
Paint your nails while saying a prayer/incantation to Her.
Write a love poem for someone who you hold dear to your heart (Doesn't have to be a lover, can be a friend, family member, or even just for yourself).
Curate a playlist of love songs on your desired streaming platform. You can also listen to love songs when meditating or communicating with Her.
Collect gemstones and crystals associated with Her, such as Amber, Rose Quartz, or Red Jasper.
Dedicate bold and extravagant jewelry in your jewelry box to Her. Earrings, necklaces, or rings that have cat or magickal motifs are especially pleasing to Her.
Show a loved one how much you care for them. Give gifts that are reminiscent of the person (or people) you love most, call your loved ones daily or as often as you'd like, and communicate how loved they are to them.
While this is not a complete comprehensive list of everything, these are just some of the things that I do to honor Her. If there's anything on the list I've missed, feel free to reblog or comment, and I can make a part 2 if needed.
As always, when working with deities, make sure you are PROTECTED and GROUNDED. Cast a simple circle and practice thorough and strong protection magic first before doing any deity work.
Reteaching myself crochet and it really makes me realize why fiber arts were associated with magic and fortune telling and wisdom. Itβs slow and requires so much meticulous detail and patience. Little pieces of yourself get woven into your work.
In a few months I'll be relocating while a new home is built on my property. Now that I'm about to have a new home I figured it was best to start preparing a home blessing spell so I can start off on the right foot. This is going to be a big spell with a lot of aspects while still being beginner friendly. Please use this spell anytime you move into a new home or feel you need a fresh start in your current home.
You'll Need:
Black or regular salt β used to ward off negative energy and spirits.
Broom or Besom β used to cleanse the house of negative energy and spirits.
Sage bundle or incense stick β Used to protect and ward the home. Please make sure you are using sustainably sourced or home grown sage I personally use mealy sage.
Bell or wind chimes β Used to sound cleanse the home
Green Candle β Used to invite good luck and financial abundance into the home.
A small aloe plant β Placed at the door to invite good health.
Lavender or Rosemary β Used to invite peace between housemates
Instructions:
Begin by focusing on the following intent:
"I bless this home and all steps and measures I take help to cleanse, protect, and invite in positive aspects I want to foster."
Starting with your broom or besom walk to the back left side of the house sweeping everything towards the entrance in a counter clockwise manner. We cleanse in a counter clockwise manner here as we want to banish the negativity and evil spirits.
If you're using a bell focus on the following intent:
"I ring the bell and cleanse this home of any lingering negativity or evil spirits."
If you're using wind chimes focus on the following intent:
"The chimes placed at the door cleanses this home of any returning negativity or evil spirits every time they make a sound."
If you're using a bell walk around the house in a counter clockwise manner ringing the bell every few steps to clear out anything you may have missed with your besom or broom. We want to make sure there is no trace of negativity or evil spirits.
If you're using wind chimes hang it up just outside of the entryway to the home and run your hand through it a few times to make it chime. This will cleanse your home periodically as the wind blows and makes it chime.
Focus on the following intent:
"This salt and sage helps to protect and ward off negativity and evil spirits."
Take your salt and lay a line of it across any doorway leading into the house and any window. This prevents and wards off negativity and evil spirits from trying to sneak back into the home.
Light the sage bundle or incense and traveling in a counterclockwise manner waft the smoke across all interior doors, windows, and exterior doors. This is used as a secondary defense against negativity and evil spirits.
On a countertop in the center of the home place the green candle and focus on the following intent:
"I invite luck and financial abundance into this home with the lighting of the green candle."
Light the green candle and allow it to burn uninterrupted during the rest of the spell.
Focus on the following intent:
"This [herb of choice] placed at the base of the candle invites peace between all housemates and helps all guests feel relaxed and at home."
Place your herb of choice around the base of the green candle.
Focus on the following intent:
"This aloe plant, known for its healing properties, invites good health for anyone who enters the home."
Place the aloe plant at the entrance of the home to invite good health.
Allow the green candle to burn for another 5-10 minutes before blowing it out.

Once again the harvest has come! I've been able to get some strawberries from my porch plant, and was successful in my first attempt at making bread! A wonderful morning out with my partner, going to farmer's market and shopping at my local witchy store. The bubble of heat my area has been in the past month has finally passed, and it's comfortable to be outside again to enjoy the latter days of summer.

I'm a Norse Heathen and practicioner of witchcraft for the past 5 years.

I'm a devotee of Freyja, Thor, and Sif, and also a worshipper of Freyja herself, as I see her as my patron deity.
I'm a collector of all things shiny, beautiful, and decorative. I love making myself and others feel beautiful through gifts and devotional acts.
