i kind of hate the idea of “heathers as a modern day satire” in general, because it was so iconically a 1980’s culture satire
but like, what if they did satire modern society, and were edgy about it
the original heathers movie was shamelessly edgy. that was the charm of it. it showed the ugliness and absurdity of society, through how society treats issues like mental health, suicide, murder, ect. the musical is sillier, but still keeps the darkness the original had. peathers watered it all down and was taken off the air because of the presence of school shootings.
but what if they went with that?
specifically the sensationalized narrative and treatment around violence, homicide, suicide, trauma, youth issues, mental health, and bullying. that was the point of heathers
heathers was about how sensationalism romanticizes these topics and can give people undeserved attention. it got past the radar because no one in the 1980s had a term for what JD was: a school shooter.
sjw’s have no power in modern high school, or anywhere besides tumblr and twitter really. school shooters are actually a threat high schoolers have to deal with in the 21st century.
i still think the “modern day heathers” thing belongs in fanfiction, and i don’t necessarily want a show about this idea, but what if dude
