[Dean scrubs at his eyes and yawns widely, belatedly thinking to cover his mouth and sheepishly smiles after.] Uh--Sorry--s'cuse me--um it--it's no problem really. But uh--oh! -Listening intensely, hoping he could help Dean find a solution James recalled a girl he’d met that seemed to fit the bill. Thinking about her he saw why Dean would be upset to hurt her, imagining the two together wasn’t hard. Dean and Kit were both broken in some way, even if that sounded cruel, and broken things usually stayed close. Broken things usually used each other to fix the pain right? But the idea that Dean acted like a prat, it was a little hard to picture- So you pretty much acted a little jealous and I’m guessing that’s because you love this girl. Yeah, I met her and she’s sweet, I can tell why you like her.Â
-A small part of James could empathize with Dean as he said that. Wasn’t it similar to him and Alice, but without another guy in the picture? It was this comparison that he realised he’d probably have acted in the same way, maybe that was a typical teenage boy reaction-Â
Right, I’m not saying what you did was fair and that she was out of order. But I’d no doubt have done the same. Hell, I’m in a similar boat minus another guy. Dean…if you like Kit don’t blow it. You’re a great kid and you have a great sense of humour, albeit quiet. I know that you can’t exactly have the whole normal relationship stuff. But turn it around and that makes it all the more special. And if Kit doesn’t know how to do it you either fight to show her it’ll work, or accept being her friend is good too.Â
-He stood from his own bed and crossed the small distance to Dean’s. It was frightfully true that James hated physical contact, sure a bit of mischief with no feelings fine…but the second emotion was involved you couldn’t expect even close proximity sat next to him. But this kid looked like he just needed someone to just sit there, just know that there was another human being that cared and was there for him. Especially when he thought he’d lost one of the most important people-Â
Dean's eyes widen at the conclusion James jumps to. Jealous, he might be willing to accept but jealous because he loves her? Dean hardly knows if he likes Kit in that sort of way and comprehends the notion of love even less.
"I don't--I don't think I'm in love with her--I just--uh--I'm just bothered that she can be kissed and I--I can't." At least he thinks that's what it is. He shakes his head, baffled by the generous advice James imparts. No one has ever actively encouraged him to try making a relationship happen. His family tells him it's simply impossible; he shouldn't entertain such thoughts or fantasies for his life. His doctors have toted much of the same if they ever address it at all. To hear that someone believes that he can actually accomplish such a thing means more than he thought it possibly could.
Dean doesn't move away when James comes to sit beside him. Instead he shrugs as he looks over at the older boy. "I just--I don't think that--that I should try being in a-um-a relationship with anyone right now. I just--I want my-uh-my friend back."
