That Jutsu

Okay So I am a Bystander Intervention Training Facilitator. Basically I teach people how to intervene in a sketchy situation. We talk a lot about consent and how it's an active thing not a passive one. So being silent does not mean you're consenting. Being inebriated or high does not mean you are consenting. 

LEGALLY If you have been drinking you CANNOT give consent. End of story. You can give consent prior to drinking and you can give consent the next morning once you're sober. BUT YOU CANNOT GIVE CONSENT WHILE INTOXICATED. 

I could talk about this all day but then I'd get off track of what I'm actually angry about. So my sister keeps saying that I hate men so I must be a lesbian and then I try to explain misogyny and she says that it's not real and blah blah blah. AND THEN she went and said that if a person has been drinking that they can consent. She didn't use those exact words but that was the jist of it. And I just kept trying to tell her that no matter how many drinks you've had you cannot consent to sex. She still didn't believe me and told me to "prove it."

I sat down and found the law and when I read it to her she STILL DIDN'T BELIEVE ME. 

The fact that people out there believe that it's someone's fault that they were sexually assaulted just because they were drinking makes me sad. It's not just my sister either. I had several people in my class say similar things and these are juniors in college. One of the girls actually said that she was sexually assaulted but it was her fault because she was drunk.
