For some reason, with Ace, it never really clicked to him that you were from a different world. As you grew closer to him, he kinda just brushed that fact under the rug.
His brain just couldn't comprehend that there was genuinely a parallel world to his own. His subconscious didn't want to believe it, so he kinda just...pretended it wasn't true.
It only really clicked to him when he started to fall in love with you. It really hit him when he started noticing small mannerisms that you did that didn't seem quite...normal to him.
The realization hit him in the face when he heard you speak your native language.
The natural language translator with whatever magic was bestowed upon you when you first woke up in Twisted Wonderland had somehow malfunctioned.
He knew your full name was something that he couldn't pronounce fully, so he stuck to a simple version of it, but it didn't really click to him that he couldn't pronounce it because the language the name was from doesnt exist here.
When he heard those foreign words fall off your tongue, it hit him. And it hit him hard.
He knew you were from a different world. But, holy shit. You were from a different world.
Ace fell in love with you, and he fell hard. You started to mean a little bit too much to him. He only now just accepted he loved you, and now you're telling him he has to deal with the fact that the one person he genuinely felt something for is basically an alien?!
It continued to hit him harder and harder each day.
You did so many things slightly different, that it was beginning to drive him crazy.
One night, when the two of you were having a late night walk. Ace was listening to you speak, and he noticed the way you rolled your R's a bit too roughly, and that you had a slight accent. All he could think was how the language being forced out your mouth was not yours.
"Holy shit." Ace muttered. You gave him a confused look, asking what was the matter before Ace gave a nervous laugh. "You're from a completely different world."
"Uh, yeah?" You quirked an eyebrow. "You've known this."
"Yeah, but..." Ace trailed off. "I never considered how crazy it was."
You gave a small laugh. "Imagine how I feel."
A silence settled over the two of you.
"You must miss home so much." Ace said ever so quietly.
Ace knew what it felt like to miss home. He missed home all the time. He missed it real bad when Riddle went on his overblot speedrun. And you were just thrown into it. He couldn't imagine what that was like.
"Yeah." You whispered, voice small. "I do. Really bad."
Ace looked at you, noticing your mood had been depleted to sadness because he brought home up.
"Ah- Man, I'm sorry, I didn't-" Ace groaned into the night air. "I always fuck this shit up."
You let out a small laugh, a smile ghosting your lips, even if your eyes were turning just a little red.
"You fuck everything up." You teased. Ace shook his head, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Sorry." Ace spoke gently, offering a small smile.
"'s okay," you muttered, your hand coming up to wipe away a small tear pricking at your eye. Silence again.
"Uh...lf it makes you feel any better," Ace cleared his throat. "You're always welcome at my home. It's- It's not the same as yours...like...at all. But it's something. Plus, Ma has been dying to meet you."
You gave a smile at his last statement. You just nodded, rubbing at your eyes for a moment. Your heart swelling in your chest.
"I'd love that, Ace." You smiled.
Ace just nodded, rubbing the back of his neck as he gave an awkward smile. He was really bad at this.
But, all Ace could think of was; "SCORE!"
"Better get you back to Heartslabyul, eh?" You spoke. "Past your curfew, mister."
Ace just gave a sigh. "I guess."
Ace held your hand on the walk back.
