Good Day | Ambrose & Cecily
A notion had taken root into the mind of the Prince of Arith.  This lone, unsettling notion was, perhaps, in its way well intentioned.  After all, its goal was ultimately a familial wish to protect his little brotherâŚbut, sadly, this lonely notion, conceived in the blank wastes of his brain, was the child of confusion and pretense and, good as perhaps his intentions may have been, well, it was all a mistake.
This notion was a rather complex one, really, with fourfold misunderstandings mounted one upon the other.  The first mistake was the focused and certain conviction that the Misses Isabella and Cecily were one person, a person who was, in fact, a daughter of the House of Astley.  This Astley had, at one time, caught the eye of Ambroseâs little brother and, furthermore, this impetuous young woman was now betrothed to Ambroseâs own cousin (who was not, in fact, his cousin), Charles Acton.  Ambrose held this all as an absolute certainty and was confused on but one point: whether or not the lady in question was a dragon dragoon as, distressingly enough, he had heard both that she was and that she was notâŚwhich was likely due to the fact that he was, in truth, conflating at least three entirely different people, and very likely more.
Ambrose did have one other notion which filled him with discontent and this was the surety that this little upstart had once attempted to ensnare Ambrose, himself. Â Naturally, with his wits and high courage, he had eluded the trap which had enfolded his family members, but he meant to put her trouble making to an end.
Now, there is one seeming mystery to this entire charade which you must now allow this author to put to rest. Â The reason the Prince of Arith believed she had once tried for him was very simple. Â Back in the mists of time when Prince Aloysius and Miss Isabella Turner had stepped out together, her identitle twin sister, Miss Cecily, had been kind and attentive to Ambrose for two reasons. Â First, because she believed that, someday, Isabella and Aloysius might end up together, which would make them all family someday and, second, because everyone else was avoiding Ambrose. Â That was all it had taken for him to believe that she wished to be with him for, after all, who would not wish for so desirable an outcome? Â That a woman might know him and not want him was, after all, so ludicrous a notion that it had not even occurred to him. Â However, it also gave rise to his greatest doubt on the entire subject, for the Prince of Arith believed not simply that the social climbing young woman wished to marry the heir to the throne â but also that she had fallen madly in love with him and he was not so very confused that he wished to wound one who had formed so flattering an attachment to himself.
So it was that Ambrose Ardenne pulled up at the Turner residence in a gilded carriage one brisk morning, demanding to see Lady Cecilia, a matter which had â after some confusion â resulted in the servants fetching down Cecily, explaining what little they understood of the case: simply that the Prince had arrived and called for a woman named Cecilia which, to the best of their knowledge, could only be Cecily.
He had come for one purpose, and for one purpose alone:Â to ward off this foolish young woman who thought she could dupe so noble a set of families and, further, to warn her that the likes of Amrbose Ardenne, Prince of Arith, heir to the throne of Aclea, had got his monocle-clad eye set directly upon her. Â This terrible vision, he had no doubt, would soon ward her off, but he had decided to somewhat soften his approach, due to her tender sentiments regarding him.
So it was that, as Cecily stepped into the room, Ambrose turned with studied grace and swept a bow. Â âGood day, my lady. Â I must say, this is not to be a pleasant meeting for either of us.â Â Indicating her own furnishings, he added. Â âWill you sit? Â Shall I call for tea? Â I fear that this interview will be as long as it is to be painful.â
Cecily was certain that there must be some mistake. She couldnât imagine what could possibly warrant a private audience with Prince Ambrose (certainly not one which he would have traveled all of this way to the Turner household to conduct).
âAre you certain he meant to visit here?â Lucy asked the servant who had come to fetch Cecily.
âHe was rather insistent,â The servant began, âAlthough -- he seemed to be under the impression that he was here to see a Lady Cecilia. I feel he must have meant Miss Cecily?â
Eleanor rolled her eyes, âThe man cannot find his own foot without guidance, heâs clearly not here for Cecily.â
âIâll handle him,â Isabella interjected.
âI donât think thatâs wise,â Rebecca replied, raising an eyebrow. Isabella would certainly say something insulting and if the prince managed to understand her meaning, it might not end well for them. They were already under enough of a microscope as it was.
âGirls, stop this at once!â This from Maria who swooped into the room, âIâve been to speak with His Highness and he is most definitely here to inquire after your sister. Come, Cecily.â She grabbed Cecilyâs hand before she could say anything and ushered her towards the parlor. âIâm so very happy for you, dearest,â She whispered before she opened the doors, âI do believe he means to propose!â
Cecily had been quietly pondering what this meeting could mean, but she had never considered that as an option! She hoped beyond anything that Maria was mistaken and could not imagine a more awkward encounter than having to turn down a proposal from the prince.
Oh, how she underestimated Ambrose Ardenneâs ability to make a situation uncomfortable.
âYour Highness,â Cecily bowed politely, and moved uncertainly to the chair Ambrose had indicated for her. Her first thought was that this was certainly not going to be a proposal, which caused some relief but his remark that this interview was to be painful for them both did little to put her completely at ease.
She was a little surprised that he meant to call for tea in her home, but she supposed, as a prince, he might do what he liked, âYes, thank you, tea would be lovely.âÂ
There was a pause then, as she waited for him to speak and was suddenly aware of the awkward slow ticking of the clock on the mantle, âForgive me, Your Highness, but what has happened?â She started to fear that he must have some troubling news regarding a mutual friend or acquaintance (who, she couldnât quite fathom, at the moment, but she could think of no other reason for him to warn for her such a painful interview as was to come.Â

Two of a Kind || Cecily + Lucy
tfwlucyâ:
Lucy was of the opinion that Maria had little understand of the Turner sisters at all but held her tongue. She did not wish to be too cruel in words regarding her step mother as it was Yuletideâ if there was a time to try and bond as a family, was this not it?
âI truly do not know what to make of him,â Lucy said quietly to her sister. âPerhaps he is unwell. I wonder if there is any illness that would cause someone to act in such a way⌠I justâŚâ she paused, letting out. a heavy sigh.
âI do not know what he intended with his invitation if I am being honest⌠Perhaps he was simply being kind and did not actually mean for the outing to take place? I know little of Voraena but I cannot imagine it is customary for men and women to travel such a distance as Valenmonth unaccompanied⌠I suppose, regardless, the outing will not be thought of until after YuletideâŚâ
Lucy had been a ball of nerves leading up to drawing of escort names, though luckily Aulusâs name had been chosen by another before she herself selected. While she did not relish the thought of being escorted about by the High Inquisitor of the Fae Finders, he at least had a somewhat even temperament.
âYou must tell me if you do not wish to spend time with Captain Mallerton and I shall come to your side at once,â Lucy promised her sister. It seemed like a cruel trick by the gods that the man who Cecily had rejected was to be her escort for the season. âI am sure he and the High Inquisitor would find plenty to discuss and allow us to slip away unnoticed!â
âIâm sure it is difficult to know, when he seems altered from moment to moment,â She smiled then, âPerhaps it is only that you make him nervous.â Cecily had seen more than one young man make a fool out of themselves in an attempt to court her sisters. They were all lovely, intelligent, beautiful, and courageous and she found that some of them felt they might be out of their depth and werenât sure how they might impress a lady who was also a dragon rider.
âAnd perhaps he did not mean for the trip to be unaccompanied. Perhaps he merely thought it was something you should enjoy and extended an invitation and that he means to make a party of it, after Yuletide is done?â Even though Cecily was not sure what sort of man the prince truly was (it seems even Lucy had doubts on that score) she did not believe that his intentions were misplaced.
âOr maybe he is ill! If he is in pain, he will be distracted and it could account for his odd behavior.â Cecily hoped they were both wrong in this and prayed that they would come to discover that his behavior had been nerves and nothing more.
Cecilyâs gaze dropped to her hands when Lucy brought up James Mallerton. Sheâd been praying that none of them would be so unfortunate as to draw Robert Persimmonâs name that she had not stopped to consider that she might draw Captain Mallertonâs instead (she also feared that she had been the reason poor Cassandra had been so unfortunate as to find Mr. Persimmonâs to be her partner).
âThank you, but Iâm sure I will be fine,â She managed a laugh, âI did my best to convince Eleanor that she should try her best to have a good time with her partner, so I believe I need to take my own advice.â It would be uncomfortable at best, she knew, and unpleasant at worst. It was clear that he still held resentment towards for due to her rejection, but even now it wasnât always like that. They still had moments when he seemed to have forgiven her for it, and she was thankful for those.
âI am more sorry for you. I do believe The High Inquisitorâs heart is in the right place, but his beliefs are misguided and because of that he is dangerous.â He was especially dangerous to herself and Isabella, especially, since they must hide their fae status from him. Cecily did not know that poor Lucy had a secret of her own. âYou must tell me when you need time away from him and I shall do the same for you.â
A Graceful Return || Cecily + Eleanor
tfweleanorâ:
Eleanor didnât want to tell her sister she was often alone at the tavern⌠but she also didnât wish to lie to her.Â
âIsabella comes along from time to time. And there are always some of the men from the Brigadeâ theyâre the best to steal coins from!â so no one ever bothers me. You mustnât worry, Cecily, I am perfectly fine! I donât think anyone would ever dare to cause trouble with one of the former Admiralâs daughters⌠especially knowing they have dragons at their disposal.
âSometimes there are officers there as well⌠I won a few of these coins off Mallerton. Serves him right, sending Persimmons into our lives. I would have stayed to take more of his money if I had known Maria had locked the door already. Perhaps I should take up lock picking⌠what do you think?â Eleanor asked, grinning at her sister. She was only partially joking.Â
âPerhaps the next time I see Mallerton at the tavern, I will challenge him to a card game and the loser is stuck with Robert Persimmons. I rarely lose and after so many of Rolandâs plans have been ruined by Horatio, perhaps it may be the only way we are ever rid of himâŚâ Eleanor flopped backwards onto her sisterâs bed, staring up at the ceiling.Â
âPapa told me today that Maria is insistent we all participate in the Yuletide festivities this season. He said he would âgreatly appreciateâ if I took part in the pairing ceremony and have an escort this seasonâŚâ she grumbled, rolling over on her side to look at Cecily. âWhich we all know is Papaâs way of saying I need to do what he asks,â Eleanor sighed. For as many years as Eleanor had been eligible to take part in the tradition, she had declined and was insistent on being her own escort throughout the festivities.
âPerhaps if I am paired with Persimmons, I shall start a new tradition and push my escort into the bonfire!â
Had Cecily thought she would have been any real help, she would have asked to go with her next time, so at least there was someone watching over her, but even Cecily knew that she would be very much out of her depth in such an environment and even more likely to fall into danger through ignorance than Eleanor would be through recklessness. âI hope so,â Cecily wanted to believe that that was true: she did tend to be the most trusting of the Turner girls and didnât like to think so ill of someone that they might take advantage of a young, innocent girl, but Eleanor and Isabella both frequenting the tavern did make her feel a bit uneasy. âFather does not like you to go,â She reminded her quietly, âAnd I do not think it is just because it isnât proper.â
Their status as dragon riders had created some uncharted territory on just how they were supposed to act in society: they could not be perfect ladies and fight for the King at the same time. They were also often exposed to the way men behaved when no women were about, as the brigade had historically had no female members. It did seem unfair that they should be able to die for their country the same as a man, but not be able to enjoy themselves as a man does.
Cecily couldnât help but smile when Eleanor suggested she play cards against Mallerton for the care of Persimmons, âI do not think he could agree to such a game without the opportunity of gaining something worth the risk of ending it with such a house guest, but you certainly have my persimmon to try.â Even Cecily was frustrated with Robert who seemed to grow more and more obnoxious as the days wore on and she longed for the days when their home would again be their own.
âYou are old enough now for an escort,â Cecily said, âIt isnât so terrible as it may seem. I find you often have a new friend, by the end. But even if you are paired with someone you dislike, you arenât made to be with them for every moment and by the end, you need not be with them at all again, if you do not wish it.â
Cecily hadnât considered the possibility that one of them might be made to be paired with Robert and suddenly none of what she had just said still applied. âOh, no! I do not think the gods could be so cruel as to allow for that! If you do manage to draw his name, I think even father would allow you to be ill for the remainder of Yule.â

tfwambroseâ:
kalsdjfkljsdf it absolutely ~does happen more than onceâŚor, rather, he mistakes her for someone else more than onceâŚhe most certainly does ~not get things right, even by accident, more than once ;DDD no but honestly??? heâll recognize her as someone heâs met before, in his way, probs bc 1) sheâs obv super pretty and wears her clothes well â which is probs the most interesting thing a persn can do in his book 2) between her and isabella heâs had multiple conversations w this face, so heâll be like âi know this womanâ and heâll be absolutely confident he knows who she isâŚbut heâll be wrong!!! he wonât necessarily think every time that sheâs the same person he thought she was last time, either, even, bcâŚheâs a disaster and honestly idk why everyone isnât clamoring for this guy to be king ;DDDD but he may have some notion of what they spoke of last time â though heâs defffff gonna conflate her w isabella for sure he canât handle the notion of identical twins (little less doppelgangers ;D) hahaha
tbh, i think trying pplâs patience is his specialty, and taking only so much of him in one sitting? he does not care! good luck in there, kiddo! cue all the fire emojis!!!!!!!!!! no, but honestly he finds interactions super confusing and he lowkey struggles, like a goldfish, w object permanence so its just a lot⢠so honestly he probs peaces out pr quickly too generally, which is good for everyoneâs mental stability lbr lajsdflkjdsjkf #crownhim
HAHAH, honestly I feel like lots of people mix them up quite often?? (even though their hair is different!) so I do think she has a lot of practice correcting people there
Cecily: hey at least when he mistakes me for Isabella heâs at least in the right family ;DDD
I also think she would have made an effort to get to know him when Isabella and Aloysius were a ~thing~ especially since I feel like Cecily probably thought that Isabella and Aloysius were going to end up together and made a real effort to get to know his family (even more than Rebecca because yeah sheâs definitely wayyy more patient) and I often think she was probably ended up with Ambrose since most people probably tend to avoid him lmao. Sheâs definitely still friendly with him, but doesnât actively seek him out as much as she did back in the day but doesnât feel bad about it because he doesnât even remember who she is ;D
Oh, I do love a happy ending, donât you? CINDERELLA (2015)

sfglkjasfljsfl omg!!!Â
~The only time Ambrose is right is completely on accident~
Cecily would definitely try to politely correct him every time (if it happened more than once? with Ambrose, one cannot be sure!). I do think sheâd be kind to him, but I think heâd also try her patience sometimes and I think thereâs only so much she can handle of him in one sitting haha

ngl if Cecily ever had a convo with him like this, she would assume that he was a doppelganger haha! thatâs definitely her default when it comes to people acting like they are two different people, because she just assumes that they are and not ⌠1 person actually possessing another lmao
sheâd just be like âdonât worry your secret is safe with me! iâm one tooâ and lasfjldajf
ASSUMES HES A DOPPELGANGER LAKJDSFKLJDSJFKJDSF IM SCREAMMMM I LOVE LKJSDFKLJkfjdasf what a meSS its perfect ldksfjakldsf weirdly, sheâs more right about it than most ppl are justâŚmissing one key ingredient (aka possession laksjdfkljdsf)

do we think theyâve met before, btw, or is this their first time meeting, do we think?
I feel like theyâve probably met before atp and sheâs definitely heard about him from her sisters (she knows he likes Lucy and Rebecca doesnât really like him hahaha I have no doubt that Rebecca has made her opinions of him known lmao). But yeah, I feel like Cecily is more prone to like him than Rebecca because if heâs interested in Lucy, he has excellent taste and yeah also his weirdness probably just means he has a doppelganger and you just have to make sure which one you are talking to alkfdjalskjfÂ
WAR & PEACE + EVENING GOWNS requested by anonymous
Nocturnal Feast of Noros
Cecilyâs first nocturnal feast of noros celebration came much earlier than she had been expectingÂ
Isabella had been pleading with their father to let her go and had proclaimed, at the age of six, that she was good and ready to participateÂ
Cecily did not share her sisterâs enthusiasms and, by contrast, was certainly intimidated and more than just a little afraid of what might be encountered and she voiced that she was sure it would be a few years away, before she would be readyÂ
Cecily had been tucked warmly into bed and was very near asleep when Isabella jumped up and nearly pulled her out of bed
Their parents and Rebecca had already left â now was their time to escape and go themselves!!Â
Cecily said she was firmly against them going: they were not old enough and would be going against their parentsâ wishes ⌠besides, if they snuck out to the celebration, they would have to experience it all alone (something that scared Cecily all the more)Â
But Isabella would not be persuaded to stay and Cecily realized, quickly, that she would either have to go with her sister or she would remain at home and worry endlessly about her
Isabella had clearly been planning this for weeks (if not longer) and produced a dragonâs costume to wear
Cecily, on the other hand, was limited to what she could find then and there and, grabbing the sheets from her bed, she hid underneath and proclaimed to be a ghost
Cecily timidly trailed behind her sister the entire time and was less inclined to join in the celebrations
She watched as her sister danced wildly about the fire, but Isabella eventually pulled Cecily in to join her and for a few moments, Cecily forgot just how badly they both were behaving
The warmth of the fire and the comfort of the remembrance cakes also helped to drown out those feelings, but they quickly returned when they went on the walk to watch for the dead
Cecilyâs imagination quickly got the better of her as she waited with her sister long after most of the company had gone home. The forest was dark and quiet and still and the sounds of the forest gave her goosebumps
As the hours wore on, Cecily found herself feeling braver (it helped that a stray cat had found its way to them and stayed with the girls until they left)
Isabella had been disappointed that they did not see any gods or spirits, but Cecily said that perhaps one had come to visit them, after all, in the form of a cat

ooc | Cecily & Owen
Owenâs backstory omg ladjfladsjflajds!!! (also ngl love the gif you have of him on your site with him slowly bringing the book up to cover his face alkjflasjf)
ANYWAY! I feel like Cecily would have really liked Owen, back in the day! Heâs a fellow fae and tbh because of that alone, Cecily would sympathize with him!! Plus, sheâd feel dreadful about what happened to him (as much as she knew of his backstory, obviously).Â
But yeah now Owen hates her entire family lmao!! I also donât know exactly what happened that day, but I can totally see where it might have been Cecilyâs fault that they were in that bad position in the first place that their dad had to get them out of. Like they would have been fine, but Cecily stopped to help someone else in trouble that was hurt or something and put them all in danger alfjsdljf
Also, Iâm not sure if everyone knows what happened to Owen/knows heâs a pirate now or if everyone thinks heâs dead?
