Like, the plumber fic by @crawsley is like maybe the greatest lesbian hrpf fic of all time that's got some d/s going on (and there's plenty of other good ones to choose from including literally everything by crawsley).... as in everything I think it can easily be done wrong and go flat. but when well done... 😋 😋 😋 😋 😋. and u can find it in my work as well amen

I really hadn't thought of it for many, many years but I've seen it pop up a bit more lately. in googling, I just learned that it's fairly recent (if u trust wikipedia it was popularized in 2009 by the manga hanahaki otome). as a kid i think i read and didn't mind it because i do like unrequited love. but to me hanahaki has that sort of 2014 era of like, flower-and-tattoo au's that are often really heavy-handed. do i think a talented writer and thinker could write a trope inversion or a deeply engaged version of the trope that i might be interested in? maybe. i've read (and written) a decent amount of magical realism that i do enjoy so embedded in a larger world and structure maybe there could be something there. thinking about it, i guess i don't really like really structured tropes - the options being death or surgical removal or requited - and i also don't like when a trope like this is just decontextualized, dropped into a world without asking further questions. so generally it is one of many tropes that isn't for me.
