Look.
I’m okay with romance webtoons. I like them too and you all can read what you want. I just find it a bummer that every other comic on Webtoon is left in the dust by comparison.

Reblog of you have aro/ace characters in your WIP!
Yes and also I am aro/ace....and agender.
This is happening so much sooner than I thought and im not fUCKING READY
Heroine Chic
Can I talk about one of my favorite Webtoons that is completed(?) This time I am not going to talk about The Badguys...but read it anyway.
One of the series that I was the most attached to on Webtoon was Heroine Chic. And honestly I shouldn’t be using the past tense. I still love it and I do find myself rereading it when I am in the mood.
How can you not love it? It’s basically a comic about Edna Mode’s profession! There is even an Edna Mode cameo in chapter 82! For the people who are bothering to read this, there are more reasons to read it.
It’s a comic that touches on multiple topics such as how drama comics should work. There is romance, mystery, politics, feminism, and LGBT issues, and of course, superheroes so you can expect some cool fight scenes. It’s kind of refreshing to see a comic in a superhero style despite it not being exclusively a superhero comic. Also a fun little thing that Webtoon fans would understand is that the authors read the comments. One minor character that was sort of a reader inside joke became a main character. Spoiler I guess. Also do enjoy the “Damn Daniel” jokes I still find them funny.
The only problem that I can think of is the “complete” tag. At the end of the third season there we were promised a fourth. That’s what the authors talked about. Their social media also talked about the fourth season for a while, but when the complete tag came up they went dark...
I still find myself hoping that it will be a case like Dragnarok where the fourth season actually gets a second series in a sense. It has been a bit over a year since the season 3 finale so despite still hoping I’m not so sure if it will come. I’m literally reading over 70 comics on Webtoon, but I still can’t get Heroine Chic out of my head! Give it some love!
Thanks for reading till the end.
Hopes for LUFF
Okay, time to get my negative thoughts out of the way first. I did not enjoy Faust. It was not memorable, but this isn’t a Faust analysis. This is a short little thing (my definition) about what I would like to see from LUFF.
LUFF is created from Arechan which is the same author as Faust which is why I brought it up before. So my expectations are understandably lower then say Pound which was made by the creators of The Badguys. LUFF and Pound came out around the same time so it was interesting to see returning artists.
Webtoon fans, go read The Badguys. I can’t stress it enough.
So lets say some common sense that all Webtoon fans know. There are a lot of comics on LINE Webtoon that has a love triangle concept. We’ve got Let’s Play, I Love Yoo, Age Matters, Siren’s Lament, the list goes on. Those were just the ones on the top of my head.
So is it too much to say that maybe Webtoon doesn’t need another love triangle. Snailords even made a joke about love triangles on Webtoon in Freaking Romance. By the way, go read Freaking Romance...and Snailogy which is also made by the same author.
LUFF immediately introduces that there are two romantic interests right at the beginning, Before we even meet the dudes! We also know very little about them. The most I had to go off on from the beginning was the descriptions of the characters that they have been doing lately with new launch titles. The latest chapter introduced one of the guys with a bit more detail at least some what.
So two love interests and under the genre “romance” it must be a love triangle right? But what if it isn’t? What if it is a Webtoon about polygamy? To my knowledge that would be a first for Webtoon and it is controversial in the public eye and also something not everyone understands. It wouldn’t be the first time Arechan made something about LGBT characters so I wouldn’t be surprised.
From my limited knowledge about this world that I would not survive in (casually asexual and aromantic) I can estimate that it may not accept poly relationships. If the LUFF system needs your ranking and social status to function or something (Stay with me there are only 7 chapters as of today) then having two guys with one woman may create an incident.
I seriously hope that is about polygamy because it has an amazing set up for a story that has not been touched upon in my knowledge. Like I said at the beginning though, I don’t have the best expectations.
Thanks for reading if you made it to the end!
Ghost Wife Rant
Congratulations world, I have a tumblr now. I’m going to avoid that entire “cringy obscure LGBT person” thing and just post my opinions on stuff that probably no one gives a fucccccc about. Also this is my first time on tumblr. So that’s a thing. Sorry if I do any tumblr taboos that I don’t know about. Despite knowing only about two people will care to read this if I am lucky sorry in advance.
Let’s get to the freaking point before I run out of relaxing Legend of Zelda music. For starters: I love Line Webtoon and I wish every creator success and that includes the ones writing romance comics. I just wish that some creators from different genres were a bit more successful.
Keep in mind that this stupid opinion is coming from someone who is an expert on drawing smiley faces and nothing else. I fancy myself a writer like everyone else in the world, but I only really write for myself so I don’t have enough experience to critique others, but I’m gonna do it anyway because that’s how the internet works.
Okay. This is where the rant starts if you want to mentally tune in now. I’m just gonna single out out one comic in particular that I am not enjoying, Ghost Wife.Send all your hate to me via PM if you really want to counter argue. I would love it if you can change my mind.
The art is boring and I can’t always tell the difference between the main character and background characters. I can even find myself forgetting her name despite the names being changed to more common western names. I don’t care about any of the characters because I find them all dull so I can’t find myself cheering for them.
I can assume from Liz’s boringness that she is supposed to be a self-insert character, but she is too boring and has no traits that I can relate to nor can I see myself acting like her in her situation. I get a Twilight feeling from it and I didn’t exactly enjoy my sister showing me all the movies or convincing me to read some of it. This time if you have opposing opinions to give me I suggest directing them to a trash can. I tried, okay? And just like Twilight the world is easy to understand. There is nothing wrong with a world that is easy to understand, but I don’t find myself wanting to learn more.
I get that it is only 23 chapters as of today not including fast pass so it is too early to tell, but I am tired of reading the top comments say “take my money” referring to Webtoon’s new coin system, which I really don’t mind. What I do find myself thinking about though is that there are so many amazing titles like Sweet Home, Days of Hana, and A Good Day to be a Dog that allow fast pass, but those fans chose to spend their coins on Ghost Wife.
I don’t mind that a comic is successful. I really don’t. Good on the creator, Saejung. Here is my biggest problem though. Nothing is happening. I’ve seen a repetitive pattern of Liz is in trouble and is scared then Damon saves her as we slowly learn more about Drake. I know I shouldn’t be cheering for him because he is the rival, but he is more interesting, not that I ship him with Liz because I find her incredibly boring.
Let’s look at some random comics with similar length chapters and see what was going on at chapter 23 to prove my point.
Let’s Play- a romance comic with multiple love interests which may be in common with Ghost Wife. What was going on before chapter 23? Conflict between characters, established crushes, introduction of secondary characters that will later have a role, character development, and world building. Things have happened.
Nothing Special- a fantasy romance comic this time. Guess what, the first season is only 29 episodes. You can assume a lot of things have happened within 23 episodes so let’s not go too into it. Even if I predict that season 1 is going to be the shortest season if there is going to be more then 2.
Room of Swords- There is a reason why I picked this one to talk about despite it not being a romance comic. I think it was progressing slowly at the time. Room of Swords is one of those comics that I consider slow, but once it hits, it hits.Seriously check it out if you haven’t yet. The hit still hasn’t hit yet at chapter 23, but it was still interesting. Interesting characters and concept that you were buying into, being able to try to connect the story to others, awesome battles scenes and animations. Toonimated also revealed that we are almost finished with season one now and there will be five seasons. So let’s say season one is ending at around chapter 60 and every season is about the same length. That means that the comic will be about 300 chapters which is over 5 years of weekly updates.
I understand that at the moment Ghost Wife has 128 chapters at this moment on Naver Webtoon which is the Korean site. It’s just disappointing to me that one Line Webtoon episode 22 of Ghost Wife has over 26k likes at this moment while the latest chapter of Room of Swords has over 20k.
I get that Ghost Wife is a romance web comic which is what everyone flocks to. I can assume that Webtoon is getting to be a more popular medium which is why a lot of newer fans are picking up series that just launched. I get that everyone likes different content, but I still think Webtoon is a medium that people can expand their interests on.
Look I leave a like for every episode I’ve read and that includes the episodes of Ghost Wife that I have read. The creator put in time an effort that I can only imagine. I just wish that everyone did the same. If I do assume that everyone actually does the same then that just leaves me wishing that some comics got more love.
Check out Room of Swords. It’s a comic I started reading while I was in a lecture hall because I thought it was an easy read that I didn’t need to focus too hard on, but I had to stop because it was too good. Give Hooky a try. If you want to look at a comic that does not nearly get enough love then that is one of my prime examples. Read Pound for gods’ sake. It just launched and it is created by the authors of one of my all time favorite comics on Webtoon The Badguys, which guess what, you should also read. Also like the freaking episodes. It takes no effort to do it and it means a lot to the creators and it can help those comics get attention that they desperately need.
Now get off tumblr for a moment and subscribe to the comics I just suggested...please.
