So, anyone who has ever had a conversation with me about photography knows that I originally wanted to be a war photographer, or at very least, be photographing something that could be used to help out or shed light on, my fellow humans. Last winter, a friend approached me with an opportunity to help build a school in rural Nepal. In addition to swinging a hammer, I was to photograph the whole thing, turn it into a book, and use the proceeds to help fund the next one. The two recent major earthquakes have made this infinitely more important, and myself and the team I'm going with at BuildOn, are more committed than ever. BuildOn has a 24 year track record of working with local ministries of education that provide teachers for the schools they build, and partnering with moms and dads in rural villages who contribute their time and resources to help build schools for their own children. In the rural areas of the developing world, we know that more than 775 million adults do not know how to read or write, perpetuating the cycle of global poverty.
