“So.. are your friends in there already?” you ask Jongho as you step out his car, by ask you mean shout, the music was pretty loud

“Yeah, they said they got here around 10 minutes ago.” okay by pretty loud you meant, wow how have the cops not come for a noise complaint yet

“Umm.. so, shall we go in?” this was almost painfully awkward

even when you thought the music couldn’t get any louder, you seemed to be proved wrong as soon as you step in

just imagine teenagers all pushing each other in a weird formless crowd, drinks spilling, and maybe some jocks chanting in the corner

“Woah, careful there.” and in this sea of people, you were lucky Jongho was there to help guide you, with his arm around your shoulder, you might have been swallowed in the crowd already

“So, where are your friends?” you check your phone and stare at your friend’s otw message sent just a few seconds ago

“Umm, they’re on their way.” and wow who would’ve thought Jongho had such a bright smile

“Let me introduce you to mine’s then! They’ve been dying to meet you.” maybe there was alcohol in the air too but something about how giddy Jongho was right now made you feel drunk already

all the worries you had earlier were gone with the wind as you danced amongst the crowd, even your friends’ teasing towards how comfy you and Jongho were couldn’t dampen your mood

“You know somehow it feels like I’ve breaken down a wall I’ve been avoiding my entire life!” You shout towards Jongho, his smile mirroring yours

“Why’s that?!” he shouts back

“I feel like everything’s complete now! You’re like some weird bridge from family to school life and I always felt like I never handled them together properly but with you on both it just feels so much more-“

“Yo, Jongho! I challenge you to beer pong, man!” and like a record scratch you were back to reality

for a second you debated on whether or not you should be selfish and keep Jongho to yourself but that would just be asking for too much, right?

“Ok, meet me by the beer pong table when you’re done, kay?” his little kiss to your forehead was enough for the few minutes of not having his arms around your waist, you guess

by the drinks bar there was nothing left except this huge bowl of pink punch

and for sure that would be laced with something, so why did you think it was a good idea to grab a cup of it? who knows.

and as you turn around to see this lovely looking girl in a small red dress you noticed you recognized her face too

honestly you still couldn’t remember what made you guys drive out so far

probably some stupid dare from one of the million topics you guys had talked about

it was not until you guys were just a few blocks away from the party where the comfy silence was broken

“So.. how come we never did hang out outside of family events before?”

it only made your ear blush furiously as Jongho asks that, his voice, though a bit unsure, was as intimidating as ever

tell you how ever since you got your ears pierced and started wearing that necklace he gave you for your 14th birthday he just could not take his gaze off of you

how ever since he saw you in the beginning of 10th grade after not seeing you for the whole summer, he realized just how much you glowed against the room

how you quite literally bloomed into someone so familiar to him yet so starkingly new

he couldn’t bear to acknowledge you in the hallways cause then everybody would see how much you had him wrapped around your finger

of course the universe gave you this moment literally a night away from the finals party

“And let you walk in just that thin jacket? My mom will have my head.” his smile was always something that stirred your insides

though you always chose to ignore it

“I’ll go get a thicker one then-“

“Nahh, we’re already outside. I’m fine. I’d be too hot if I wore that anyways.”

and his arm hugs you tightly next to him

“If I hold you like this, I’ll keep warm.”

when was it again when you noticed how much that 2 year old you met when you were babies grew up into such a fine young man?

maybe it was when you started to feel the strength when his arms gripped you like this

or when his hair falls so softly, framing his face

good thing you could always blame the blush on the weather

the convenience store was in view now, you didn’t even notice how your heart was literally beating like a drum at this point

or how the whole walk back home, he walked with lighter feet, the first time ever he was actually excited for a stupid party

besides, if it were anybody else except Jongho taking you to the party, your parents wouldn’t have allowed it

“He’s literally gonna be here in the next 10 minutes. Just help.”

shimmying into the maybe too revealing clothes, you run towards the door, taking a deep breath before opening it

“You couldn’t have possibly thought I meant that, right?” The club’s booming bass was seriously starting to turn into a real headache.

It didn’t help that you couldn’t even stand straight with all the alcohol in your system, all the people shoving you around to get past.

But it beats having to get a single foot closer to the boy in front of you. Beats having to be any more near to Haechan, the boy you thought you were in with for the long run.

“Baby, you’re not an idiot, come on.” Every single word that comes out of his mouth did nothing but add a crack to your twisted, twisted fantasy of being with him for forever.

“I did it cause I wanted to make you jealous, okay? I’m sorry. Baby, I would never cheat on you. I mean, look at you.” And as another tear slips, you realize that being in his arms weren’t the same. Hearing those words weren’t the same.

How could he do that? Play it off as if it was some game? Pretend like me catching him in the club with another girl was nothing but a plot to make me jealous.

“Shut up, Haechan.” You step away from his embrace, tears running down your face like a faucet.

And as you stumble from being shoved by another stranger again, Haechan tries to grab your wrist, except instead of letting him, you snap your arm away and shake your head, nothing but betrayal in your face and regret in his.

“The minute you started playing with my feelings, Haechan, I figured you weren’t worth it.” And right as you walk away, before you blocked out his calls and pleas, like you were stabbed straight to the heart, you face him with the coldest face you could muster,

there’s something so beautiful about a chaotic love. maybe it’s a stretch, maybe your mind forces the jagged pieces to seem like art altogether.

“Yup, Jongho, you’re taking her to the party or I’m taking away all your protein shakes” Wooyoung exclaims

maybe it was because Jongho was just tired of all the stares but after some thought eventually all he did was nod as he walked away

fast forward a week later, after the finals no one could focus on cause they were all gossiping about your guys’ relationship

Jongho hadn’t really asked you about going to the party

despite that kid’s stoic face, he was actually…. nervous? to ask you to somewhere outside of family relations?

and especially to a party the whole school will be in

sure, you guys may have spent countless nights talking about anything and everything in his room as both your parents had one too many glasses of wine during family dinner

sure, you may have slept in the same bed more times than you could count with your fingers

and sure, he may have thought it was almost second instinct for him to have your arm looped around his during all those bday parties and charity balls

but again ALL of that was outside. of. school.

somehow it felt more casual and overall more familiar that way

but him inviting you to a school party? that was way too intimate

it took a step towards something he avoided and ignored for the past 16 years

but with Wooyoung literally nagging his ear off about it he knew he had to ask you

so here we are now, on one of those weekly dinner nights with the Choi’s, this time it was at your family’s house

same scenario as always, your sisters giggle up in your sister’s bedroom, your little brothers were in the living room completely engrossed in minecraft, while your parents were still sat at the dining table, sipping some wine

and you two? well you were supposed to go up to your room to watch a movie until..

“Y/N, will you please buy us ice cream?” honestly, you weren’t even surprised that your brother wanted ice cream in this below freezing weather

“Okay, fine. I’ll be back.” you were about to walk out the door when you felt a jacket dropped on your shoulders, easily warming you up

the culprit? none other than Jongie automatically taking his place next to you to come with to buy ice cream. just like almost every other weekly dinner night

just one thing rang in your head as you watch him walk ahead though

if you told your friends about this tomorrow morning they would literally grill you if you hadn’t asked him to the party

a/n. first part is sort of like a preview for those that get confused

“How much can you even make my heart flutter?” Haechan smirks. A small smirk that brought you back to those high school days. And it’s crazy to think how much everybody had change over the years.

You knew you grew taller, maybe prettier. Your friends were all matured, beautiful too. But as soon as you stepped in the camp for the simple reunion camp party, it was as if everyone of us were kids again.

“You know.. Haechan just moved back to South Korea like days ago, but when he heard you were coming to the reunion, he decided to fly back almost instantly.” They gossiped like little girls and giggled gleefully around the tent.

It was still bright, but somehow, inside the tent, it felt like one of those sleepovers back in the days, when you would all huddle under a blanket and talk about boys as you passed the flashlight.

Outside the tent was no different, they boys were rowdy, chasing each other around with water guns, shooting away.

Nothing like what the camp counselor had instructed you all to do, but that’s what happens when you put Haechan in a group.

He always was the class trouble maker.

Seeing the lake sparkling so brightly, you were drawn to it. Or maybe the fact that Haechan stood there, with the most heart stopping smile you’d seen, maybe glancing at your direction every now and then.

You wash your hands on the edge of the lake, this thick tension in the air as you crouch down, silence enveloping the two of you.

But nothing happens until later tonight. After one too many drinks, you guys all laugh about the camp counselor’s face as he saw everyone making a ruckus and playing earlier rather than doing the jobs he assigned. It became the funniest joke of the night how he instantly abandoned you guys.

You notice as the night deepened, your body was more loose. Your mind fuzzy, and just like what liquid courage would do, you walked up to the boy sitting at the other side of the bonfire eyeing you all night, the boy you were thinking of all night and asked him boldly, in front of your old class.

“Did you come back for this reunion cause I was coming?” Your words slurred, stance was a bit iffy, but nonetheless everyone in the area could notice your determination to get the boy to speak.

It was as if time stopped as he stood and got too close for friendly, close enough for a lover.

“And if I did?” His voice was husky, yet still with that tinge of youthful playfulness you always loved from him. It was only a split second you could focus on his voice though, cause then the booming cheers from both boys and girls around the bonfire swallowed it up eventually.

Taking it as a challenge, you smirk and raise your hand, their cheers instantly stopping as they anticipate your reply.

“How much can you even make my heart flutter, Haechan?” And this time he smirks, a smirk you’ve always grew attracted and magnetted to. Slowly, he walks even closer to you, your former classmates’ cheers cringing and cheers slowly raising.

“I don’t know, you tell me.” But despite how harsh he pulled you towards him, his grip was light, but oh you felt it. Who wouldn’t if his warm hands were on your waist like that, thumbs twirling across your hot skin.

“Always answering a question with a question...” You loop your arms around his neck, your classmates now full out freaking as they jump up their seats and screaming at each other. It made you giggle, how little they changed.

would you guys get scolded by the teacher? oh yeah, at least twice every class period 

you guys were the kids where if the fire alarm was set off it always had something to do with you two

maybe because he always suggested the stupidest things??

and in your head you were thinking ‘Hell no!!’ like the smart straight A teacher’s pet you were

not just chemistry, but during biology too you guys would just be the biggest troublemakers

i say synthetic cause on the real one you ended up crying cause of guilt

that was the ONLY time yeonjun was ever serious for science class - when he was comforting you

a few jokes later though, you’ll be laughing again cause of something stupid he did, ending up with both of you in detention

lets just say you weren’t teachers pet anymore after partnering with him

and yeah the teacher definitely regrets putting the two of you together but because you still get straight As on all the projects, she/he lets it be

on a 3 legged race you would literally be laughing your ass off because of the look in his face when you guys got second

would always save you in volleyball

but if you were an attacker? he would literally jump to the ball for you

you guys always find yourselves volunteering to stay behind for clean up just cause you wanted more time together

look, taehyun is usually very diligent and punctual for projects, but once he found out you were his partner? all that goes out the window

when you guys first sat together to work on the project? he took literally the whole class period just introducing himself

and the next time you guys were given class time to work on it, he’d ask all about you for the whole period??

and he wasn’t like very talkative and just talks the whole time, he was a great listener which made you end up talking a lot too!

because taehyun was such a perfect student, the teacher didn’t bother scolding you two for not working on the project, she/he believed in him

but then come the pressure

two days left until the due date and literally all you guys did was go out for ice cream and watch movies at his place

once he notices that you were slightly quiet the next time you guys meet to ‘work on the project’ though, he would immediately get it and would go to work

lowkey does an all nighter so he can finish the project early and spend even more time hanging out w you

so the next day all is well (despite the bags in his eyes)

who knew that in just one party 16 years of platonic friendship could turn into a rollercoaster of something completely different

let me give you some (a lot of) backstory

choi jongho was both your closest and your least close friend

your parents were so close with each other it’s a bit concerning

while both his sister and yours were basically conjoined by the hip

same goes for both your two little brothers

so... then theres the two of you

the two families’ only pair with opposite genders

maybe thats why you guys never hit it off really

up until the age of 10, you two literally would not acknowledge each other’s presence

despite your parents’ constant pairing of you two for seriously EVERYTHING

whether it be bday parties, weddings, get togethers or charity balls

you two were a coUPLE

in school you had different cliques

literally never crossed ways

so people didn’t know that you two had YEARS of history together

until one high school day, years later

oh it was the biggest surprise of the decade for the whole school when you oh so casually sat down next to him

Boy, if you thought he would take it easy on you cause you were his girlfriend, you were very very wrong. If it was paintball, he’d even smear the paint across your skin just to prove he’s won. Don’t worry, cause you’ll learn quick, and eventually it’ll end up being an even game. He’ll start to notice how happy you got whenever you won a point, so just maybe, he’d let you win.

A beautiful view is something both you and Soobin appreciate so much. And what better way to get one than to hike together? Despite how much it’ll hurt your feet in the end, that dazzling smile he gave you once you reach the top was worth it. Don’t worry he’ll be the perfect boyscout too with all the snacks, drinks, and first aid ready.

Cause one pet isn’t enough for the two of you, you thought it would be a grand idea to frequent and eventually volunteer at a local petting zoo. You two would melt together as the softest and cutest animals came to your touch. Raises your teamwork and communication so much more too.
