the fact that gwyn saw azriel slaughtering a group of people so ruthlessly within moments, and yet she was not afraid of him when she saw him again after , but teases him, challenges him, asks him to train her, jokes with him.
Killing people, fighting people, that violence is azriel’s JOB. he’s a warrior, and his job is to protect his court.
gwyn saw azriel doing that up close and that still didn’t change her idea of him. That never disgusted her and made her recoil from him, or made her treat him any differently.
I wonder how elain would think if she saw that. the girl who pales at the sight of a knife, the girl who couldn’t stand HEARING about the cruelty in the hewn city.
Azriel’s shadows, whom are described to intimidate others and scare them. Feyre herself felt uneasy around his shadows in acomaf. but Gwyn literally SMILED at them when she saw them peaking over azriel’s shoulder to watch her.
She doesn’t cower at the sight of Azriel’s shadows or darkness or violence as everyone else has been described to.
And that alone shows how suitable gwyn would be to be with him with this kind of lifestyle. She wouldn’t see him any differently when he came back from a mission, or when they’re fighting a war and he has to kill a bunch of people. She would be fighting right beside him too. He wouldn’t have to explain his job or his nature to her, because she would understand. And that’s the kind of person azriel needs.
The only way azriel and elain would be compatible is if azriel stopped stopped his violent nature, stopped killing in wars and defending his court, and got rid of his shadows. and that would literally become a whole other character, that’s not the azriel that we know. he’d have to change everything about himself to be fit to be with her.
And as azriel himself implied, he does not want to change.
“the shadows kept him company, as they always had, as they always would.”
“i am a shadowsinger- it’s not a title someone just made up.”
He IS a shadowsinger, that’s who he is. his shadows make up a part of who he is. without them, he wouldn’t be azriel.
