Hello! Deltarune chapter 5 is releasing in 4 days, and if you do not know, I am a massive Deltarune fan. This post is just a little thought-dump/theory post to get my ideas out there to see how it holds up with the new chapter release. Also, sorry that this is lengthy and kinda relies on your preexisting knowledge of the game and lore. I’ve included TLDRs if u wanna skim. (warning: spoilers) art by me

Chapter 5 Specific Theories

This section is more dedicated to theories that we will almost certainly get confirmed/disproven in chapter 5

Chapter 5 Dark World

Not a novel idea, Flower King/heavily flower related dark world is now guaranteed. I’m willing to entertain the idea of two dark fountains, one possibly being in the Holiday household, but this seems to be one of the most cut and dry parts of the chapter.

TLDR; Flower King lmao

⭐️7 Flower Darkners⭐️

I’m not going to say I’m certain about this, but this idea is something that I’d be the most excited to see with the new chapter. Something notable with the previous chapters is how much fanservice has happened. We’ve gotten a proper Mettaton Neo fight with Spamton Neo, and a proper Gerson fight last chapter. It’s not crazy to think that we might get darkner minibosses/npcs based of the fallen humans from Undertale. I genuinely don’t know why all the flowers are colored like the human souls if that isn’t their eventual purpose. There’s also a possibility that we just get Flowey again but I think that’s less likely (Flowey could even be one of the flowers). To prove this theory correct, I’d take them using their Photoshop Flowey attack patterns. We already have 1 from patience.

TLDR; 7 flower darkners equivalent to the 7 fallen humans.

Noelle in the Dark World

I believe that it’s more than likely that Noelle will enter the dark world not only on the weird route, but in the normal route as well. There’s been upkeep in the item interactions with Noelle with items in chapter 3+4, Noelle is shown in your party in the screenshot we’ve got of the festival (granted if you showed me Noelle in the party in chapter 4 I might’ve come to the same conclusion about her entering a dark world), and with my belief that Noelle is the most likely candidate for the second hero (see below), it would make sense for her to accompany us for a portion of the next adventure (particularly to give her more relevance than she already has which is admittedly a lot).

TLDR; Noelle likely in next dark world, maybe like chapter 2, with sections with and without her.

Friend Inside of Me

Yeah probably. Would be funny. The bath curtains prize in chapter 3 is a very odd inclusion if fake. Not super passionate about this it’d just be funny as shit if it’s real.

The Roaring/End of Chapter

Toby’s original plan was to release chapters 3,4,&5 simultaneously, and we are coming up on the end of what was originally his ideal pause to the story before chapter 6. This begs the question, what is so significant about this ending? It seems to be the end of the secret shadow crystal bosses, a significant turning point/end to the weird route, and the end of the “fun adventures”. So what is so different coming on the horizon that these three chapters can be considered one package deal? I believe that we could very well see the start of The Roaring by the end of this chapter. I’d bet if we do, it’d likely be the cliffhanger we end off on. This would allow us time to process the adventure of the chapter in hometown, give us time to visit our castle town, before raising the stakes incredibly high for next chapter.

Overall Story Theories

This section is non-chapter 5 specific, but any one of these ideas could be proven or disproven at any time

⭐️Knight’s Identity⭐️

I believe the knight to be December Holiday. Dess is being set up as an incredibly important part of the story, with plenty of mentions of her that are mandatory to see. This theory is not the most novel but there is maybe something I differ from most Dess knighters on, and actually is a big reason why I want to get this post out. I believe that Dess may very likely be a dustner. The armor that the knight wears is implied to be a similar (if not the same) material as the shadow crystals/black shard. One of the properties that shadow crystals seem to have is to blur the lines between the light/dark worlds, likely being a form of concentrated determination (from the Seam dialogue Toby released on his Bsky). but what if you were to make a suit of armor out of shadow crystals? Could they act as a micro dark fountain, turning whatever is inside into a darkner? What if Dess had been fatally wounded, and there was no other option? One of Carol’s know traits has been her desire for control and preservation. If she had met someone in the bunker group chat soon after Dess’ untimely death, maybe they had roped her into a way to prolong Dess’ life, despite the consequences. I admit, this theory doesn’t have the most substantial evidence, it more relies on a “wouldn’t this be badass” way of thinking, but I just personally feel like this would make a lot of sense given some of the rules that have been established. Probably gonna be wrong, but I wanna call that shit if I’m spot on.

TLDR; Dess is dead but the knight’s armor acts like a dark fountain, keeping her alive.

The Final Prophecy

I believe that the final prophecy has to do with darkners/Ralsei specifically. From the previous chapters, a personality trait has been becoming increasingly apparent in Ralsei. He wants to keep Kris/Susie happy and unaware of the final prophecy, choosing instead to sacrifice his own happiness for them to remain oblivious. I feel like he is smart and empathetic enough to understand that if the final prophecy relates to Kris/Susie being hurt/killed, he should be much more forthcoming with the information. You don’t keep secrets from your friends if you know the danger is fast approaching them. I instead believe it could be the dark worlds themselves being in jeopardy, or Ralsei’s life. Ralsei seems less likely because by the time Susie sees the final prophecy, she already knows Ralsei’s tenuous relationship with his own self worth, so the comment “[he] wouldn’t let that happen,” would seem like she’s a little oblivious (he would sacrifice himself in a heartbeat). My best bet is on the dark and light world being severed or something along those lines.

TLDR; Ralsei’s gonna die (less likely) or the dark worlds are going to become inaccessible to lightners.

The Second Hero

I believe Susie is not the second hero, and that the title most likely belongs to Noelle. Susie is likely the last “girl”, who has her role separate from the heroes. I feel like most of my belief in this stems from a thematic analysis of Susie’s character, her narratively and mechanically being a rouge element in the story. She’s always had problems fitting in, but in chapter 4 her self confidence has been bolstered by her supposed identity as the second hero. I think that it would be a completion of her character arc if she both fights the prophecy because she thinks it’s bullshit, and with the knowledge that she isn’t some prophesied hero of legend. Some of the more convincing in-game evidence is; her inability(or unwillingness) to wear ribbons, her being compared to “the dragon” by Gerson instead of a hero, the prophecy panel’s depiction of a sword, the panel depicting the second girl with the illustration depicting Rude Buster (or alternatively ACTING, but that doesn’t really make sense for anyone as of now). Noelle is a strong contender for the second hero due to her being the only other character as of now to be able to properly join the party, Queen’s weird obsession with how “powerful” she is, and her ability to equip bows & swords. I feel more confident that Susie ISN’T the second hero than Noelle IS. (I still love u Susie ur my goat)

TDLR; Noelle is probably the second hero, Susie is definitely the last girl.

Green and Inbetween

There’s smarter and more brain rotted fans who can tell you exactly why this is the case, but Gaster’s probably green.

Kris’ Trauma & Past

I honestly am not incredibly opinionated on this. I think it’s likely that Kris was around when Dess disappeared/could be directly responsible for it, and it would make sense if a direct consequence of this was them being recruited to the bunker squad (maybe Carol even set up fake “therapy appointments” to get Kris away from Toriel, and that explains why they aren’t the “patient” there), but weirdly, even though Kris is our player character, there’s so many unanswerable questions right now.

TLDR; Kris was involved in the Dessappearance

Thanks for reading all this. I’ve been feverishly typing this for the past two hours and it’s midnight so I apologize for any misspellings or overall lack of quality in the writing. Truth be told this really isn’t really for anyone but myself, just because I really can’t expect people to be all too interested in my theories when they have their own to worry about, and it’s just a longer read in general.
