(deeply nauseous) what sam and meg have in canon is maybe the only real recorded case of drifting in the sense that meg was so fully in his head that she was him, for a second:

dean: meg. meg: no. not anymore. now i'm sam :)

and again in s8:

meg: i spent some time in that walking corpse of yours. i know your sad little thoughts and feelings.

so maybe they aren't drift compatible to start, sam and meg, but meg is one of the few people in the show determined to understand sam winchester. she's one of the few people who asks him what he was up to between s7 and s8 and genuinely cares to hear the answer. and i think, in many ways, meg has the kind of mindset sam could understand, too:

sam: why you doin’ this, meg? meg: i’m doing this for the same reasons you do what you do—loyalty. love. like the love you had for mommy—and jess.

meg: i'm simpler than you think. i figured out one thing about this world - just one pretty much. you find a cause and you serve it. give yourself over and it orders your life.
