Team ANPIM's Yuri VN Adventures

Hello!

I just released a new FREE yuri visual (kinetic) novel, for the Yuri Game Jam 2025! It’s a late submission, but it’s a submission nonetheless. It’s around 34k words, approximately 2-3 hours of gameplay depending on reading speed (less for speedy readers, or around 4-6 hours for the streamers out there reading line by line). It's been a long journey for both TeamANPIM and the process of getting it on Steam, but we made it!

It's exciting to be able to achieve such a big milestone, let alone on our 10th Year Anniversary! The timing couldn't have been more perfect! I can't believe it's been 10 years since we started... It did start off as a team, but people got busy and/or it wasn't a priority for them, so I decided to continue myself, which is perfectly fine, but who knew I would be able to grow TeamANPIM into something of this caliber! TeamANPIM has become a regular in the annual Yuri Game Jams, and people actually look forward to our new games every year, which is insane!!!! I'd like to thank all our supporters that enjoy our games! I know I mentioned that I would be slowing down, and I think that's still true (most likely, but who knows), but I really do hope to continue creating more and more yuri stories down the line!

Now that (some of) our games are on Steam, we hope to reach out to even more yuri fans, and feeding the need for yuri about adult women! I might be a little nervous, seeing that more eyes on our games will definitely mean more criticism and/or hate, but hopefully we can grow from it and strive to make even better games in the future!

I still can't believe it's been 10 years since I started making visual novels, I still can't wrap my head around it, and honestly I'm very grateful they've always been well received and people look forward to my games every year!

It's been a while since we've updated (especially here on Tumblr), so have a family photo of all the current existing main characters and their love interests from all of our games!

Thank you all again for playing thru and loving our games! I know I say this a lot but it really makes me happy to know that our games are loved despite being short and sometimes rushed at the end :')

I was inspired to do this last night drawing the new characters! If you haven't known already, most of our --esp newer-- characters exist in the same world :) play them all to find the easter eggs! its also funny seeing the art differences between the characters in here lol

more light novel-length titles pls! also, thank you for explaining the reasoning for their names! i never saw the comments but i'm sorry you had to see them. doesn't matter what they say cause this one's my favorite for sure, really enjoyed it. please don't go too hard on the next one :( (if you do participate). it's tough when you have to do everything!

I Can’t Believe the Most Popular Girl in School is a Lesbian, Just Like Me!

I swear our titles are getting longer and longer.

As mentioned previously on the game’s description on the game page, this game was....... kind of meant to be a joke. At first, that is. 

I didn’t know if I was able to make it for the 2019 Yuri Game Jam cause I was swamped with school projects and stuff. I stayed up til 3-4am when I was able to, but I was also still working alongside school too, so I really didn’t have much time to work on it until late at night or on the weekends. And so because of my uncertainty of this year (er... last year?)’s entry, I humored myself with a plotline that’s ridiculous. I thought what if I just made a joke game that includes all those cliche harem tropes, such as “falling on top of a girl and accidentally grabbing her boob” or “somehow walk into a girl changing clothes”, you know, the stuff that happens in those harem animes. Though I didn’t manage to add any of those in our game, Hana’s contract with Hinata was still something. In the end though, it still had our classic cheese and fluff so it’s all good :)

Like I said, since I didn’t have much time to work on this game, I rushed on a lot of things. I say that, but I still put a lot of time into this, especially when school was finally over for the semester and I just spent 24/7 working on the game LOL. I spent quite some time on the UI, and I did actually spend some time on the sprites. The quality of the CGs were kind of meh, but they’re passable. ....I hope. Haha. My art style did change a bit from the last game, and I feel like I was kind of lost with where I wanted my style to be, and it translated into the art in this game oops. I’m still really happy with how the CGs turned out though! Especially that 2nd one. That was a kinda wack angle.

Hana and Hinata’s name also have some sort of theme, like OLTC. 

Mizutani Hinata = 水谷日向 =  水 (mizu) meaning "water" and 谷 (tani) meaning "valley",  日向 (Hinata) meaning "sunny place"

Morishita Hana =  森下花 =  森 (mori) meaning “forest” 下 (shita) meaning “below”, 花 (Hana) meaning “flower”

The reasoning is that, even though it seems that Hinata needed Hana, it was actually that Hana needed Hinata more, and we all know flowers need water and sunshine :) It might sound like a stretch, but trust me.

One’s Lonesome, Two’s Company

Again, I worked alone for this game, and it was such an interesting experience! This one was for the 2018 Yuri Game Jam. I was employed at this time, but I was still able to pour my heart into making this. I stayed up til like 3am every night working on it haha, and not because I had to, but because I wanted to. I loved working on this game. There were so many new things I learned, so many new things that I’ve incorporated into the game by researching more RenPy stuff. The art upgrade is also amazing, and just I just love everything about this.

I based the two characters off cats, Hibiki being a gray cat with teal eyes, and Kotone an orange tabby. I don’t remember why exactly, but I think I was just trying to find a theme to create the characters from. If the design isn’t recycled from an old random drawing, I try to think of something that I can use as a theme. Hibiki’s hair is more brown cause I was afraid it looked too unnatural LOL.

And since I based them off cats, their names also have a cat references! I’ve mentioned this on our twitter, but

Nekota Hibiki + Kaneko Kotone “Neko” is “Cat” in Japanese, for those that don’t know.

Aside from the cats, their first names, Hibiki and Kotone also kind match, both having to do with sound. Hibiki being 響 meaning Sound/Echo, and Kotone being 琴音 meaning Piano/Japanese harp and Sound.

Enough with names and onto the art. Wow, there has been a huge improvement from the first game. An incredible improvement from our first game. I still really love the sprites and character designs. The CGs were pretty nicely done too, if I do say so myself. Very proud of them!! I finished the game a week early (when usually we would start a week before due date lol) I had time to even include a bonus doodle at the end. Play through the game to see it! I tinkered with a lot of the code as well this time, like moving the quick menu to the right side instead of the bottom. There’s a lot more sprite movement as well. Once I get into the groove of the coding part, it gets pretty fun. I’ve only ever had experience with CSS and HTML, so python was pretty new, but since the RenPy code to use, it was pretty easy to go in and change little things here and there. The RenPy documentation is also godsend.

Secret Satiation

Our first and only (so far) visual novel that features adults, as well as supernatural entities.

BOIIIIIIIIIII There was so much to this game than it ended up being.

This was the first game that I worked on mostly by myself. Most of the team kind of opted out cause they were busy, and/or not interested anymore. I had some help from my co-writer here and there mainly for opinions and options, but I was on my own. I didn’t mind too much though, cause I had creative freedom C: It was definitely wild though, I had to everything from the art, the writing, the coding, looking for music, looking for backgrounds, etc. It was fun though! Kinda stressful, but still was super fun!

The story...... where do I even start..... I’ve changed the storyline like 3 times before settling on what we have now. Let me try to dig up our past storylines, let’s see.... There was a timeline where Ada had family issues, with like, arranged marriage kind of thing??? LOL Running away from responsibilities kind of thing. There was supposed to be a somewhat erotic blood sucking scene LOOL, it was just supposed to be a LOT LOT longer than what it is LOL. My ex-co-writer mentioned that it’s super unnecessary, so I condensed it and took out a lot of stuff. I think I spent more time struggling with the story than anything else LOL especially because I changed it so many times. I wasn’t in school at this time, I graduated college and was unemployed hahahahaha so I had all the time in the world (in which i spent all the time thinking up plots). In the middle though, I literally gave up cause I couldn’t decide on a plot or whatever, and I left the game alone until about a week and half before the due date and decided to pick it up again. So yes, this game was made again, in about a week technically haha.

It’s interesting to see the art improve compared to the last two games as well! I’m also SUPER satisfied with the UI that I made??? oh my god. I still really like it. Not a fan of the logo for the game though tbh LOL.

Character design-wise, I based Charlotte off an old drawing I drew, https://udon-udon.tumblr.com/post/162661408391/we-dont-talk-anymore-we-dont-talk-anymore-we (I tend to reuse designs cause most of these characters are just randoms anyway), and named her Charlotte cause the song I based the picture off of was by Charlie Puth LOL. I was going to name her Charlie at first, but I decided to go with Charlotte instead.

We didn’t have a music person anymore, so I had to go look for royalty free music, and I would like to bless and thank Kevin Macleod for all his hard work and royalty free music!! Saved my butt literally. 

I thought coding was going to pretty hard, but it was actually pretty easy! All I did was take our previous game’s code and then switched some stuff, added some stuff, and voila. 

From Salt to Sugar

Our one and only non-Yuri Game Jam entry. Why didn’t we join the 2016 yuri game jam? I don’t remember.

This was an entry for the Sugar, Sweets, & Jam! game jam.

This was our second game, and definitely one of our longer games. It was a big jump from our first one as well, but also cause we actually utilized all the time we were given, aka 3 months! That was plenty of time. Though I was still in school at this time v n v

Obviously, with that huge amount of time, we were able to step up our ante this time around. This is our only game that featured SECONDARY CHARACTERS, WITH ACTUAL SPRITES!!! The only game of ours that doesn’t have silhouettes!! I got to thank the extra time that we had. And because of that, our side characters received lots of love and even demands for a spin-off (cough cough Kaede’s story cough that might not happen just yet cough) 

The story in this one is just as simple as the first one, just with more interactions cause we were able to fit in more. We were able to create more bonding sessions between the two which was nice!! Was able to give it a more believable build up. Also it’s the only game of ours that we wrote in third person, where we were able to have a part of the game to show Camille’s POV for a short period of time. I feel like this game definitely gave us a lot of firsts. 

As for the team, we had someone that did the backgrounds for us! Although they were still blurred, they weren’t photos this time! :D Music was also done by our music person this time. Great job to everyone! 

There were a couple of complaints about the UI, about not being able to see well enough cause of the font colors against the text box. We never fixed it unfortunately, but we of course took that into consideration when we worked on our next game.

Natsumi & Fuyuko: All That’s Inbetween

Wow, this is a throwback.

I can finally talk about the beginnings of Team ANPIM and how it came to be.

I have a group of friends that like yuri and we stumbled upon the Yuri Game Jam 2015, the very first Yuri Game Jam. We humored the idea of joining, but unfortunately, it was already nearing the end of the game jam. Since it was nearing the end, we didn’t have that high hopes of actually finishing something and submitting it, so we just started a plot/story just for fun. We started brainstorming and writing a bit, and then a few days later or something, we found out that the game jam got an extra week extension!

It was a crazy idea, and an idea that even I didn’t think it was plausible, but I suggested we go forth and finish what we have. Aaaaaaaaaand we did. 

Since we only had a week (and maybe a bit more?), we had to create assets and finish writing asap. We somehow, within a week or so, created character sprites, blurred backgrounds, CGs, and even our own music! We had a music person once, believe it or not. I was also still in college at that time, so I probably ditched assignments to work on this LOL.

Our music wasn’t anything super professional, but definitely still good considering our music person was also kind of just dabbling in music at the time! Our UI was also super simple because it was all that we can do with the amount of time.

And of course... our team name. I kind of regret choosing this name now, but the whole explanation of our name is here https://twitter.com/Team_ANPIM/status/1152775361081384960?s=20 Quite quirky and odd, but it was something we all thought should go with LOL. 

At this time, we had a total of 6 people that worked on this game! 

This is a new thing we’re trying, just so our CEO has a place to talk about what’s going on during each game and the process behind them! We’re going to start with a recap of what happened from our very first game and how the start of Team ANPIM came to be :)
