In case you missed my snap story yesterday
I don’t know who you are but I think I’m in love with you.
Sometimes I want to bring this back because I will literally never be this funny again.
@sipqlq :-)
So I found this piece is started years ago and have decided, why not? So I'm gonna take a swing at finishing it as a mixed media "get your hand back in the game" thing. It's an illustration of some tiger/tawny/ditch day lillies I did for a class about working in thin washes of acrylic paint, which was dope, but I don't have any acrylic right now so they're gonna be marker and color pencil day lillies.
So the first thing I've done is pull up some references because it's January and there are fuck all to draw live. Also I can't go to a florist for both covid and lilly-pollen-is-toxic-to-cats reasons.
Next I pull out every single color I might hypothetically need and arrange them, then make a color test page in each media along the edge of some sketchbook paper since I'm working under different lights than usual.
Color test page is set up for the marker layer, you can see the yellow wash already on the paper. It's acrylic, so ita never, ever coming up, but that's ok, I want that underpainting, because it makes coloring much faster and richer.
Blocked in the first layer of greens, plus touching up some of the line work to remember what the hell I was doing. Looked it up and the last time I worked on this was five years ago, so let this be a lesson in "you can always pick this back up again"
Someone in the notes was asking about using marker over acrylic paint: this is hot press matboard and the acrylic was was really really really really really thin, so the water actually ripped the tooth of the paper up a bit before the acrylic set it so it's got tons of tooth left. The markers won't mess with the tooth either so when I get to the pencil phase I'll still be able to lay a lot of color down.
So now I blocked in some of the pinks and oranges and got some nice smooth transitions on the buds that I'm really liking. Break for dinner and puppies.
Ok so actually that was a couple days worth of "PUPPY NO!!" but he's doing a lot better so today I moved to the color pencils and blocked in the stem and leaf shadows with indigo for the very dark areas, and electric blue for most of it. Electric blue does two things:. Firstly on a plant that is very close to fischer-price generic green, electric blue will give you that full saturation green without looking flat. Secondly, even though most of this will be covered, bits will still come through and our eyes find the color exciting, so it will make the picture more engaging to look at. It adds a sort of liveliness, or verve to anything, so I reccomended underpainting with electric blue if you want some slap to your work.

@thebibliosphere of interest to you?
You know me so well.
Too much 'werewolves and vampires are eternal enemies locked in a bitter battle over who controls their turf' and not enough 'werewolves and vampires bond over a mutual desire to eat garlic bread even though they know it's bad for them but it's so so good.'
MOTHER FUCKER
we’re having a Snow Day, which is fine.
except it’s NOT bc the huge shift in atmospheric pressure has rendered my autistic brain completely useless for the foreseeable future. all services have been shut down. the roads are closed and so are my neural pathways
when you said atmospheric pressure shut down your brain it took me a second to realize you meant the atmosphere as in how tense school is compared to how calm home is, and not that autistic people have some kind of internal barometer that is attached to their brain.
nope, I’m literally talking about barometric pressure!
for those who aren’t aware, autistic/adhd brains are sensitive to barometric pressure shifts. changes in atmospheric pressure (like those caused by rain) effect our blood oxygen levels in a way that messes with our brains. sudden changes in weather can exacerbate our symptoms, making us irritable, lethargic, anxious, twitchy, overwhelmed etc, while our brains work overtime to adjust to the change. it’s just one of the ways that environmental factors other people take for granted (weather, noise, overhead music, lights, etc) can affect our lives in ways people don’t expect.
so yeah, we basically do carry around internal barometers, attached to very loud alarms!
My ADHD brain can tell when a storm is coming because I suddenly feel like I got brained by a viking berserker with an axe and I can do things like see colors and hear smells which is not at all fun and more like perceiving annoying things in new and even more annoying dimensions. The initial crack happens about four hours before the first rain/snow starts falling, and the types and intensity of synesthesia indicate the type and intensity of the storm. Upslope drafts make smells have sounds and the edges of the crack ring, but downslope pacific fronts make the crack feel goopy around the edges and some things start shimmering around the edges.
i hate that the true crime community is filled with so many freaks who stan and woobify literal serial killers like. i wanna know about art heists. identity theft. forgery. money laundering. prison breaks. elaborate scams. spies. secret political deals. bank robberies. where is the pizzazz? the showmanship?? the originality??? all i get is racist white men going around killing people because they hate women and im TIRED
She’s a geologist, he’s a werewolf, no one is happy about either. Imagine Georgette Heyer wrote urban fantasy.

A good video I captured.
A good tail she captured.
Great scene, and based on an actual historical incident in medieval Germany:
When King Conrad III defeated the Duke of Welf (in the year 1140) and placed Weinsberg under siege, the wives of the besieged castle negotiated a surrender which granted them the right to leave with whatever they could carry on their shoulders. The king allowed them that much. Leaving everything else aside, each woman took her own husband on her shoulders and carried him out. When the king’s people saw what was happening, many of them said that that was not what had been meant and wanted to put a stop to it. But the king laughed and accepted the women’s clever trick. “A king” he said, “should always stand by his word.”
Medieval women were BAMFs.
We stan both the wives and the king
