I feel like Samlightning deserves some more love. Sam is pretty consistently nice to Lightning, he tries to joke with him and be encouraging while also trying to show him that heβs a worthy teammate and maybe even friend; youβd think that as a stereotypical geek, heβd be pretty adverse to jocks, but Samβs just kinda chill with him. He tries to prove that he belongs on Team Men, tells Lightning and the rest of his team that winning isnβt everything to comfort them, and calls himself Lightningβs thunder while (in his eyes) playfully competing with him. Meanwhile Lightning is consistently frustrated by Samβs non-competitive attitude, to the point that he wants to vote him off for it; he canβt imagine playing solely for fun because his self-worth has been tied to being number one his entire life. Despite this, though, the two are still pictured together often, probably because Lightning doesnβt really have any close friends on his team. I feel like over time, Sam might help Lightning relax and learn to actually have fun again, and maybe vice versa, Lightning would try to help Sam by training him to be more enduring and assertive. Also I think part of Samβs attachment to Lightning comes from maybe seeing him as either some sort of masculine role model, of maybe just as one of the most normal people on the team next to himself; like, idk, not exactly stiff competition when theyβre also on a team with Dawn, Scott, and Staci (and B, I could actually see them and Sam getting along pretty well too because theyβre pretty laid back and a bit socially awkward and interested in tech, but I digress). I just think theyβre both so lonely when they start the show, I want them to be friends and learn from each other and maybe kiss a little
