back.
The screen cut to black and the credits started rolling. With a heavy sigh, Wesley picked up the remote and turned the TV off. Yet again, he wasted his time to watch some stupid ass rom-com by the request of Jasey. He pushed himself off of the couch and stared over at her sitting at the table in front of her computer. “Why did you ask me to watch that?” He asked while she wiped a tear from her eye. “THAT made you CRY?” He asked surprisingly. He had been forced to watch so many bad movies over the last 2 months, most of them at Jasey’s request. Almost all of them being really cheesy Netflix films starring the same square shaped mid 20 year old trying to play off being a high schooler by being quirky. “Come on Jasey, I thought you had taste in movies.” He snorted as he tossed the remote on the couch.Â
“I’ll have you know that I do like movies, but not everyone likes the boring sappy drama and anime films that you like, Smith.” She goffed as she continued typing away at her computer. Wes rolled his eyes as he walked into the kitchen. He felt exhausted from the amount of times he found himself rolling his eyes or sighing over the poor writing of the film he just witnessed. The only thing that would make him feel better right now was a nice cup of coffee. He opened one of the cabinets and pulled out a green mug that was decorated with images from one of his favorite anime. Walking over to the coffee pot, he yanked it out with the realization that it was empty.Â
“Did you drink all the coffee?”He asked as he looked over to Jasey. Lifting one of her mugs to her curled lips, he sighed and placed the pot back on the counter. “The least you could have done is told me.” He complained.Â
“It’s 3 in the afternoon. I didn’t see the point to tell you to make more coffee so you could have your fourth cup of the day.” She replied as she shut her laptop. Pushing herself from the table, she stuffed her phone wallet in her pocket and slipped on her shoes. “I’ll see you later!” She yelled to Wes as she walked out the door.
“Wait, where are you go-” His question was left unheard as the door closed. Wes put his hands on the counter and lowered his head. For the last two weeks, Wes has been left at home by himself a lot. His internship had ended and now he was waiting for the next one to start. Being left alone with his thoughts has never done him any good, but considering that he was slowly approaching what was supposed to be his wedding day - he found himself getting way more anxious and depressed. He looked up in the cabinet and was met with an empty bag of coffee filters. “Of course.” He slammed the cabinet shut and walked back over to the couch. As he plopped down on the couch, he grabbed his phone off of the coffee table. He quickly typed in a number and placed the phone to his ear. “Hey, I need a favor.”
There had been a time when Drew Rogers felt alive — felt like the world was completely in his hands. And then it didn’t. After high school — after graduating and leaving the world of Carolina Springs behind, Drew found himself sitting at a crossroad with his girlfriend Stella and his own personal dreams of publishing the next great novel. Naturally, like most teenage relationships, his time as Stella Wilson’s boyfriend ended during his first semester at Louisiana State University. The age old quest of surviving a long distance relationship failed. His friendships with Percy Harper, Justin Cambridge and Brendan Lohman lasted until he found himself walking down the aisle, arm and arm with Jasey Newman — Justin and his beloved Brooke Matsen finally tied the knot. A beautiful ceremony in South Carolina, the ocean roaring behind the preacher. It was also the last time Drew would see most of them.
After graduation, he moved from Louisiana to New York City — his past addictions surrounding him with each step. Stella moved on, leaving him to watch her life unfold on social media — a fiancé, a teaching career in Boston and a dog. Brooke and Justin were fixing to have their first child, Drew was positive the child would come out with curly hair and demon tendencies. Brendan left Jasey shattered and it was up to Wesley Smith and Drew to pick up the pieces around her. Percy remained a true friend — cigarette breaks in between beat reporting in New York for the Knicks and coffee trips. Percy had followed his father’s footsteps and took over the family owned company in the heart of Manhattan.
With the world crumbling around him, Drew felt restless. A cup of coffee sat pitifully on the table at a coffee shop in the middle of the Upper East Side. As his phone began to vibrate against the table, his legs stretched out across the couch — dirty green converse kicked against the brown leather. “Fu—fuck.” Breathlessly, he reached for the phone and read the name flashing against the screen. “Wesley, my good man. Sup?”
At the sound of Drew Roger voice flooding his speakers, Wes’ mind was flooded with memories. Memories that he tried to repress for the better. He didn’t want to think about Daniel. Not right now. He didn’t want to think about Lacey or Percy or Emma. As much as he loved Drew, those memories were always relevant whenever the two were around. Especially the breakup. While it felt like forever, Wesley still found himself stuck on it. No matter what he couldn’t help but yearn for Daniel despite the fact that his feelings were not reciprocated in anyway shape or form anymore. “Jasey used the last of the coffee filters. When are you gonna be home?” He asked. Mostly because he wanted coffee and didn’t necessarily want to leave the house, but him feeling isolated and depressed was also starting to slowly take over.
