Matthew Brandt spoke to me on a personal level in his way of thinking, using material, and mode of experimentation. He relates the subject of what he photographed to the photographic medium. He thinks based on the reactions of the material, and the product that is formed. Matthew takes a photograph of a lake, and uses the physical water of the lake to transform the photograph back in his studio. He uses old darkroom technology such as developing with chemicals, known as a wet process, and lets the water from the lake sit with the chemicals to develop the photographs into a homogeneous form.
